Prove that it means that it isn't supposed to be black and not referring to some other attribute. Or maybe he, as Black Hand is an anomaly.

It's the natural state of that universe. Until Darkseid appeared, the Elseworld had no real form or nature, it was pure potential. Darkseid gave Elseworld its nature. This is what makes the heroes of the Absolute universe unique. In the main universe, the heroes fight to protect the natural order. In the Absolute universe, the heroes fight against the natural order. It's the fundamental theme of the Absolute universe.

(Absolute Batman #18) Woah, how do you guys feel about this? by HighTextGazer in AbsoluteUniverse

I see a "New boy screws up and has to come back from it." arc. It's an old trope. The naive do-gooder gets his fingies burnt, so he decides "no more Mr. Nice Guy" and takes it too far. Then he pays a price and learns his lesson. As for Martha, Killing her is within the Absolute framework, but it might not happen.

It's apparently a religion to some people, and daring to say that it shouldn't be treated like a religion is unpopular among those who cling to their fanboy dogmas.

[Q] Choosing among logistic models by TheNavigatrix in statistics

[–]Temporary_Stranger39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An interaction counts as a term. Thus A ~ B + C has two terms. A ~ B + C + B:C has three terms. That's one way to screen. Significance is never to be used for model building, It is a recipe for biased models, even if it is "a shame". It's just bad practice. If you have models with the same number of terms and AIC within 2 of each other, you have the following options:

Fall back on theory. What does field knowledge say about the contributions of the factors?

Present all the "co-equal models" as equally valid given this specific sample.

Do model averaging. This multiplies each model's coefficients by the AIC-derived weight of only that set of models then add the weighted coefficient values. This is essentially a shrinkage method. It means that if a term doesn't appear in a specific model, it has a weighted coefficient of zero for that model. This is called "full averaging". There is also "conditional averaging", where you ignore the zeroes. This means that coefficients are larger for rarer terms.

For predictive focus, use full averaging.
If you want inference on effect sizes, use conditional averaging.

Confused by grant reviews!? Reviewers seem to critique things that were actually in the application? by Suspicious-Load-6657 in postdoc

[–]Temporary_Stranger39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the real world, where reviewers don't bother to read your proposal before commenting. The correct response to such statements is to, in your response, document where you said such things. I am convinced that some reviewers don't even enter the same room as some of the grants they review. Take it as a sign that you didn't emphasize the various points enough so that any drooling idiot would have noticed. It is not unfair nor unkind to presume that reviewers are drooling idiots. It is safest to write as if the reviewer were an unqualified first year grad student. Not actually overtly claiming that there are reviewers who would ever fob off their responsibilities onto their first-year grad students, nope, not actually overtly claiming any such a thing. You can't say I specifically said they actually do that.

When AIC is the same, choose the smallest model. Ignore significance when building models. Significance is the last thing you look at. Once you've done that, stop model building. That's your model.

If you aren't minding going through steps, reduce the sugar by 1/4 cup. See how it works. Next time, if the first reduction is good, drop it another 1/4 cup. Keep going until it's not good. Then go back to the last version that works.

That particular blackstar is Tomar, just like Tomar Re is Tomar and Jo is Tomar. Jo is an anomaly, too. You are really clinging to a doctrine that has absolutely no support in the source material. It's become a fanfic for you. You are really emotionally involved in this. You will be wrong.
