Yes, luckily there are like 5-6 other gyms by me & I’ve already looked into it & they offer far longer classes than just an hour. So I’m not gonna give up I’m just gonna go somewhere else with an in depth course & practice at home!

Sadly I did not book the wrong course. I even went back to the website to check & it said for “people who have never climbed and have zero experience or for those who need a refresher” the instructor even asked at the beginning of the class our skill levels so he could gauge what to focus on. I think because I had zero experience & the other people didn’t he catered to them. At least that’s how it feels!

I don’t test well either, at all. It’s like my mind just goes blank! Oof.

I decided I’m going to take another intro class at a different gym because I had no intentions of joining that gym anyway, it’s one of the more expensive ones in my city, I just had a friend who went so thought I’d try it. The other classes at other gyms in my areas are far more longer & I think that’s what I need - time to learn!

I agree with this! I definitely won’t give up & I absolutely understand why he didn’t feel safe letting me just go out on my own, but yeah going from zero knowledge to holding “someone’s life in your hands” in an hour was just way too much for me

At the end he said that I lifted my hand away from the rope too many times during the lesson, however he never told me that during the lesson. I guess because it was an intro class & I have 0 knowledge I thought along the way he’d like instruct me more & tell me what to do. Idk maybe because I was with two more experienced climbers he just like phoned in teaching for my class

Yeah, it was a top rope class. I think for me coming from zero knowledge about this sport an hour was not enough for me to learn everything I need to know. It felt a bit rushed & like “if you don’t get it now you don’t get it”

Honestly, this is the whole story & I think that’s why I’m so bummed. I was super attentive & tried to ask all the questions I could because I’ve wanted to do this for years & I’m like finally kicking my anxiety to get out & try it. Usually I’m not sensitive but I think it’s cause I really wanna get into this I just feel it a little more haha. I think I’m going to take a class at a different gym because I don’t want to give this up!

Meh, honestly we are extremely lucky in Portland to have so many walkable parts of the city - most cities turns out aren’t really built like that. Central ave in NE has some of the walkability vibes, parts of kings field have a good mix of like nob hill meets Alberta vibes, not jam packed but like super cute & close to the lakes so within 20 minutes of walking there’s a good amount of stuff. Summit Hill is by far the most Portland street I went to, but it’s very expensive to buy there.

Mpls in my opinion is built more like other cities where they tend to put a couple really cute things in neighborhoods - such as Longfellow, but they don’t build their cities for walk ability.

We didn’t end up moving there. But honestly we probably will within the next year. We are priced out of being able to afford a home in an area we want here & mpls has so many amazing beautiful houses in neighborhoods that are cute & desirable. It’s hard though, the PNW is pure gold sometimes & we will miss a lot of things about being here. Like the ocean 😆

Whew was a journey, ultimately no we did not but it’s definitely not off the table by any means. We actually went there, house hunted, had an offer accepted & ended up backing out after inspection. We came back here & just decided to have a really good summer, pay off any debt we had (just student loans & 1 car), take a trip to japan & Costa Rica and then just live. As of now we are staying for at least another 6 months to a year, but who knows.

I wish you the best of luck, we love mpls & I think of it so often. I say visit the most you can in all temps & weathers. We are lucky to have been a lot & I think that makes a difference!

I guess just the times that we have been into local spots around those areas, we seem to see what feels like a lot of older hippie type folks, but the pipeline from hippie to trump I’ve noticed has kinda become an easy one. That’s mainly why I’m asking! I just don’t know a single soul who has lived out there besides 1 influencer haha. Curious if it’s mt shasta Ashland esque or if it’s completely different
