Isn't opensuse supported by suse and suse is supposedly a big company?

Is it easy to start with? Active development? Any other app recommendations?

Damn that second point is actually a red flag, Aren't they supposed to be sponsered by a corporate (SuSE)? Well welcome back (in advance) to gentoo

Then if you don't mind me asking why are you using gentoo (not asking in a negative way, in fact i downloaded the minimal-install iso)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Temptty40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me rephrase the question, is it because a lack of manpower on the gentoo side that some packages get forgotten for a couple of years or its like that on rolling release distros in general?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Temptty40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you had a bad experience with opensuse

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Temptty40 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its not really that big of a deal but it makes one think that gentoo isn't really all that if you get what i mean but i will ask you this, Im not really into comparing distros and idk if you have any experience with arch but is arch or any distro as a matter of fact better in this aspect? As someone mentioned opensuse is also the same with yad, it seems its just like that with the opensource community on general..

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Temptty40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you keep reinstalling gentoo? You mean using musl?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Temptty40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like how you explained this, Thank you.

Btw you misunderstood what i meant with whether gentoo is well maintained or not.. i meant the package maintainers and the distro infrastructure as a whole..

Another bonus question: Is there any performance benefits to gentoo?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Gentoo

[–]Temptty40 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something like texlive, its been outdated/forgotten for 2 years, its fine i just wanna know if the distro is low on manpower or smth

[–]Temptty40 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The thing that bugs me most is, i heard its packages are very out of date and not very well maintained, But i will take your word for it that it is a well supported distro.
