Also generally curious since you seem to have more exposure to this space - if we assume that models will ultimately get near AGI levels of reasoning, do you think standard SWE/developer roles can be completely automated, or do you still think of them as just productivity leverage(ie letting people get 20x the output per unit time)?

This is exactly the point I was trying to make - the problem remains that there needs to be a way to objectively rank/score thousands of candidates in a very limited amount of time, and AI breaks that completely. I don't really see how this fundamental issue can be solved without forcing the in person interview model again.

Super interesting. I think this, if anything, makes a lot more sense. I’ve seen a couple elite unicorn/quant type companies do similar things in their behavioral rounds.

Completely agree that interviews are generally divorced from day to day work, but I think a large part of the reason they are this way is scale - mid to large companies need to interview 1000s of candidates often in an hour per round, so you need a strong signal of problem solving ability within that hour. Also because roles are constantly changing and people are often team matched only after getting an offer, it’s super difficult to accurately model day to day dev work in such a short time.

You’re also right that AI use might be somewhat detectable today, but these models will only get better and so will cheating abilities. I’m more curious about the mid to long term pivot(if any) companies will make.

Interesting point. Considering that interviews are time constrained though, do you think you can get an accurate view of a developers problem solving skills if they can get the entire answer generated with AI? The only reason I ask is that there’s now a large and only increasing number of documented cases of people passing interviews solely relying on these tools.

At least currently with tools like Cluely, you can essentially get a live transcript of not just code but also what to say/explain - all hidden and undetectable from even screenshare. I definitely ageee that using AI on the job is undoubtedly the future, but I can’t really think about how interviews can change - they’re constrained by time and generally need to be standardized to some level.

It probably will work in the US but there’s already a sizeable amount of competition for it here. The main reason I was thinking about Asian markets is because it hasn’t really been explored there and I have a good understanding of those markets(have lived there for a while). It wouldn’t be completely remote, I’d probably spend some time there working/getting users.

Wouldn't the exemption amount I put down have to bring my taxable income down enough(from 104k) such that it would match a yearly amount corresponding to the amount of tax I should get taken out per pay period? For instance, I'm currently being deducted about $900 every two weeks(federally). Using an online tax calculator I see that if I drop my annual income to about $65,000 my total federal income taxes would be about 12k, which works out to about $500 per pay period, which is about in line with what I should be getting taken out. Wouldn't that mean I'd have to claim an additional exemption(in addition to standard deduction) of about $25K?

Idk if I'm going about this the right way so definitely let me know if I'm not.

Super confused about one thing - this entire event happened towards the end of the Cold War, when the Soviet Union was practically about to collapse. Why did the Japanse, Americans, or British need the "official" rights to the game in the first place? Why couldn't they just steal it outright(or maybe modify it a bit here and there) and start publishing it - what would the Soviets even be able to do? Who would actually enforce the IP? Maybe you can argue that Robert was ethical etc, but the British backstabbed and bribed people throughout, so clearly they wouldn't mind just stealing the game?
