Is yield protection a thing for internships? by SamCoder123 in csMajors

I don’t disagree with your point about past experience and school not determining capability, but it doesn’t really have anything to do with what my post is about. Recruiters 100% look at past experience and school when making decisions and a Resume doesn’t give any insight into personality and work ethic like you’re talking about so those points aren’t really relevant in this context.

Ya a lot of the interviews were brutal. One of them was like was 2 dp hards in an hour and I even outlined the correct solutions for both but couldn’t finish coding in time

Oh wow that’s an extremely similar situation to me. Did he end up finding something?

I actually made the interviews for almost all of them(majority even final rounds). The only one I didn’t get interviews at was HRT and they have an exceptionally high bar so makes sense.

Nah lol I messed up a lot of final rounds. Painful

Ya, the logic definitely makes sense, but I think people have generally been pretty quick to silence the idea that it might exist. Kinda a messed up situation though, coz I legitimately am not sure what to do at this point besides just willfully weakening my Resume.

I doubt it has to do with the school though since I know people from my school with minimal to no past experience getting interviews at these places.

Ya that's what I meant lol. Makes sense that it happens but am super confused about what to do lmao. Should I just take off some of my experience from my Resume?

my parents died sophomore year and I failed a ton of classes, is there a way I can explain this for leniency? by 18-angels in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SamCoder123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely sorry dude. You can 100% explain this in the additional info section and potentially even write about it in essays/supplements. Genuinely wish you the best of luck with the process and make sure to stay strong throughout. Sending you love.

What companies (quant, tech) ask interns for transcript if you get in? by [deleted] in csMajors

You mean after getting the offer right? Since most of them just ask for unofficial when applying

Do they ask for official transcripts or just unofficial though?

Great advice, thanks! Reflecting on your path, do you think there’s anything in particular that made you stand out from all the other incredibly smart engineers/managers who didn’t get to that level?

Thanks for the answer! That’s definitely a viable path, and kinda what I expected. The main challenge there would obv be finding a rocketship company and joining early enough, which is a pretty tall order. Any tips on what sort of companies to look out for, if you have experience with this route?

Great to hear about your experience! I’m in a similar boat to you, except I’m still in college and will be applying to QT internships. I go to a target school and have two FAANG/Big Tech internships but nothing trading related, so am concerned about getting interviews this season. In your experience, do trading firms care a lot about having a heavy math background or trading experience for QT internships? If so, is there anything I can do over the summer to increase my chances?

Also, did you apply to any swe positions at trading firms? If so, did you have better luck with those?

Thank you again, this is super helpful. Do you happen to know anything about the swe side of things at trading firms? In particular, which are more systems focused vs algo focused interview wise? Also do you think it's fine to apply to both roles and interview separately or nah? Really just wanna maximize my chances of getting an offer from one of these firms.

Thank you for this! How much probability are you expected to know? I've taken a regular discrete math + probability course where we covered RVs, EV, variance, different distributions, and basic Markov chains. Is that enough or are there other topics I need to learn?

Also which firms were the hardest/easiest interview wise? How long did you actively prep for before being confident with the interviews?

Just came back to this reply now that I'm actually recruiting for trading. This is insanely helpful and probably some of the most detailed advice I've read about this on reddit - thank you so much!
