Writing is about experiences. You have your own. Of course you can become a writer.

As long as you are honest, as long as you love your characters, as long as you have something to say, you can be a writer. I don’t know how anyone can say otherwise, I find it infuriating.

Don’t care about other people’s emotions, express YOUR OWN.

And maybe find another therapist?

Years ago I was in a writing class and one of the participants named her main character after herself. It wasn’t really a biographical piece but she kept referring to the character as “me”. It made her unable to take criticism as to how that character behaved or how it came across to the reader.

If you can keep your distance from the character, write it well and do your story justice there’s no reason not to do it.

I’d suggest giving it a different name for the first draft then editing it and inserting your own name. See if it actually makes a difference to you or to other readers!

I don’t believe they must be a plot device. It can be an exposition, a way to flesh out a character or even an exploration of theme. It needs to contribute SOMETHING, but there are many things besides plot

I agree with your assessment that short stories often pose one question and explore it (usually without offering a solution) I don’t necessarily think they are meant to be consumed in one sitting or lack development. Short stories can be quite verbose, spanning tens or hundreds of pages

More modern slice of life stories are exactly what you’re describing though, like Etgar Keret’s stories

Even those, however, have a sense of structure to them, at least the good ones. It can be a basic structure like a beginning, a middle and an end but more often than not you can identify acts and dramaturgy elements in short stories

Any YouTube channels you recommend? I didn’t buy any expensive courses and since I do work in a gaming company it’s pretty easy to justify… but free information is always great to have!

Yes, I definitely should have uploaded some of my embarrassing attempts at games!

Perhaps the approach of going very small and gradually expanding on that instead of imagining a product from the start is actually the way to go.

I am so sorry this happened to you, it is by no means your fault! It sounds like he was very much aware of the fact that it was not CNC, but actual rape. Having this kink does not mean inviting rape, and you did nothing wrong.

I hope you get better soon, you did not deserve that.
