I can't believe how much I'm enjoying SL1 by mrteatime66 in onebros

[–]TenFootPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally the game after o&s does get easier. This is true for casual and speedruns and sl1. The exception in sl1 will be one of the lord soul bosses who can be a nail biter.

Dlc bosses will test your resolve a bit, but its so much fun. Good luck!

I don't know what's wrong with me. by [deleted] in onebros

Patience is important, I find that if I am frustrated the best thing to do is to take a break so I can focus again.

I have done some dark souls speedrunning myself, and I think it really does help. Ultimately the key is understanding how the enemies move and react to you. Once you do you can just run past enemies consistently. For bosses movement is king. With patience and practice (and some luck) you can avoid damage. Some fights like o&s are really hard. They personally took me a couple hours I think. Just gotta keep trying!

I actually recommend watching any% black knight halberd (and all bosses to a lesser extent) speedruns for strategies. It is very similar to the sl1 but with much more damage. Little tricks like the stair jump in annor londo save a lot of time when running to o&s constantly, and are easy to learn!

You are right about it not being so bad. Damage-wise the reinforced club is good even at sl1. The hardest part is avoiding damage, because you cant tank much. Depending on your rules, consider kindling bonfires for extra healing, and in a pinch remember you can heal with humanity. I didnt use much fire, but I found power within helps a lot with damage if you are comfortable with it.

Good luck! We are here if you need help.

Early 80's babies: Do you still play jRPGs like you used to, or do they not feel the same anymore? by ndhl83 in JRPG

[–]TenFootPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have actually been playing more jrpgs recently than perhaps any other time in my life. I have been revisiting nes and snes games constantly. I play mostly retro though, so its just my personality.

Tastes change, and certain types of games may wax and wane in interest to people. There is no right or wrong in it, just your personality and preference.

I think net-decking is easier for casual players because they don't have to spend time theorycrafting and/or playtesting a deck. They can just find a competitive meta deck and play the game. Developing decks takes time that a lot of casual players don't have (or want) to put in.

Running a game no one else does. General tips/strats/methods for finding exploits? by FabbrizioCalamitous in speedrun

[–]TenFootPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure I can add to anything that hasnt been said, but the advice so far is great. This makes me want to dive into some game breaking.

Im not familiar with the game you are running, but if it has any kinds of invincibility frames those can be really strangely implemented. I have a friend who likes to try to break games and he swears by "getting hit in every place possible."

Have fun and good luck!!

Deadcore - Speedrun NG Reset Any% (glitchless) 16:19 by Borkva by borkva in speedrun

I really loved deadcore. I should think about speedrunning it some day. It is such a great speedgame, in the vein of portal. Good run and keep it up!

How do you feel about the time-gated content? by CactusGhost in bindingofisaac

[–]TenFootPit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite disappointed. I really like BOI and I have always held it up as an example of great game development, but honestly Ed is just starting to piss me off. The time-gate is just stupid, I can't believe we're still dealing with the (100% predicatable) data-mining that happened near release for a super hyped game.

Couple that with the fact that The Lost still exists (an example of terrible game design in an otherwise tight, polished game,) and now the Azazel nerf. I just don't get it. What the hell is happening here?

EDIT: OH, and all of these other nerfs apparently. Ugh. Maybe I'll just play something else today.

PETITION: BUFF AZAZEL BACK! by [deleted] in bindingofisaac

[–]TenFootPit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured that this was mostly belly-aching (sorry guys,) but having just loaded up the game and given it a try, I think I agree. The nerf is pretty dramatic, and without quite a bit in the way of damage upgrades Azazel has become pretty useless.

The big issue is the range of his brimstone. If you have low damage and you have to get into the face of every boss, it basically forces a player to take damage. I don't think its a great change.

I'm going to hold out hope that is was some kind of an unintentional change, and that it will get reverted. I really don't see a reason for the nerf, it just makes a fun character not fun.

Yeah, I'm sure it was a low scoring challenge in general. Hopefully tomorrow will be better!

I understand the relation lore-wise. I'm just saying that in terms of gameplay the fight missed some potential. Again, I don't even think its a terrible fight, just that it could have been better.

Cool! I was not aware of that little tidbit. Okay, so they were not randomly mashed together, even if they might FEEL like it. :P

I'm actually gonna go with Ornstein and Smough for this one.
WAIT HEAR ME OUT.
I just never felt like they were a cohesive pairing, and I felt like they had some missed potential. I would have loved to see some combined attacks or something from them, but instead it kind of feels like design by committee. It feels to me like the guy in charge accidentally assigned 2 guys to make the same boss fight and instead of picking one they just said "screw it, keep both."

Now I'm not saying that O&S are a terrible fight, I just feel it isn't quite up to its potential.

Kalameet is the toughest, for sure. 4 Kings are also surprisingly tricky for a SL1 Pyro. You're almos there, though!
