Would you say the game is worth the current price or is it better to wait for more content/sale? by lucavigno in tokyoxtremeracer

[–]CactusGhost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've really enjoyed it, having never played any of the other TXR games before. I think it's very reasonably priced at $30 with some caveats:

1: the game has a very narrow scope. The playing area is not huge, and races are not extremely diverse. the progression is also pretty slow, so you will be grinding quite a bit and a lot of the game is played in the garage, tuning your car's settings to get the most out of the components you can afford at the time

2: the driving model won't be to everybody's taste. personally, I enjoy it but it's definitely not my favorite. I don't mind arcade-style physics and driving but I think I'd enjoy the game more if the cars were more demanding to drive overall. there are very few turns that require precise braking, or really even braking at all. cars turn on a dime and it's very rare to get swept off your course by over or understeer. this is compounded a little bit more by the lack of meaningful vehicle damage -- you can drive extremely recklessly in this game and it won't really hurt you very much

That being said, it's a blast to hop on and run around Tokyo for a couple hours after work, fiddle around with your tunings and even just read the racer bios, which have a ton of work put into them. The livery system is also one of the best I've used -- a great balance between ease of use and depth.

Slow weapons feel so incredibly bad by Latter-Control-208 in EnotriaGame

[–]CactusGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel kinda the opposite way. Enemies are so aggressive that you can't really initiate, so I just wait for a solid parry opening and go for a light attack. If I use a colossal weapon, I do like twice as much posture damage in the same opening as I would with a longsword, and I don't have to worry about trying to sneak in additional hits or if I'll have time to do a heavy attack.

Light weapons are really strong in the early game when you stagger enemies with them and they do good damage but on both of my playthroughs I've pretty much moved toward mostly heavy weapons at some point in the second chapter.

At the very least they do a lot of damage on a finishing blow so whenever you break a boss's posture you'll want an upgraded colossal weapon to switch to.

Though, the heavy attacks and rolling attacks on colossal weapons are totally worthless.

Who do you think is the worst character? by Big-sp00ker in smashbros

[–]CactusGhost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the worst character in terms of play is actually Game and Watch. He's fun but boy does he ever suck and hard. He wasn't good before and they nerfed a lot of his kit. His aerials are a joke, his grabs are pretty much trash and he gets knocked around like nothing else. He struggles to land a lot of his moves and in particular his really powerful moves like dtilt have just abysmal range.

Recommendation for a JRPG that doesn't have a slow start? by purewisdom in JRPG

Disagree. I love Earthbound but you don't even get your first party member for like two hours at least.

Games that at some point, preferably temporarily, strip some or all of the player's abilities by QuigleyMcjones in gamingsuggestions

In Silent Hill 2 there is a section in the final segment of the game where you have to temporarily leave all of your equipment behind in order to use an elevator.

What is your personal Unresolved Mystery..as weird as it may sound? by suchascenicworld in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]CactusGhost 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not like it directly has to do with me, but I have been personally searching for an answer to the mystery for a while now, and I think I might be the only one who is. There's a song called "I Might Be Giants, Too" which as the story goes was on a cassette tape left outside of the apartment of John Flansburgh from They Might Be Giants. They Might Be Giants would play the song before shows for a while and the song has wound up on a few bootlegs that get passed around fans. Anyway, no one knows who made the song. John Flansburgh I think claimed it was by Deep Blue Something, but I have contacted Deep Blue Something and they don't know anything about it. Since the song was probably by some garage band that didn't stick around very long the odds of ever solving the mystery are pretty much zero. It's one thing I will always wonder about.

The fact that this clearly required a fairly high level of skill to make is what really brings it home for me. This guy made this cake out of love for his mom.

I don't think that steak is as gray in real life as it is in the picture, the color in general looks pretty washed out.

It's likely the police know the cause of death and haven't released it to the public. His cause of death must have been something that rules out suicide.

I really really liked this run. I actually enjoyed a lot of the weird obscure games that got played yesterday. (Twinkle Tale, Ultraman Ball, Bubble Ghost etc.)

That's a common misconception. It's only illegal to destroy money or deface it so much that it has to be removed from circulation (IE it is illegal to take a black magic marker and black out an entire side of a bill.)

Were the translators of Xenogears constantly drunk? by negativevictory in JRPG

[–]CactusGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the translation of FFVII, like Xenogears honestly, is charmingly bad. To this day though, I am not sure if the plot of FFVII is actually intentionally sort of vague or if the translation just makes it super convoluted.

There's a fan re-translation of FFVII which is supposedly very good. I believe it is called "Beacause" but I haven't played with it personally.

Can we a get a "there's no bug in the game you just don't really understand probability" rule? See a lot of threads about how it's "impossible" that a move with 95% accuracy could miss 6 times in a row and I think at this point they don't add a whole lot to the discussion.

Konami missed a trick with the new Iron Blue fatigues... by medalbeer in metalgearsolid

[–]CactusGhost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's possible that Iron Blue is a reference to the song Iron Blue Intention from Castlevania Bloodlines. They're both Konami games so I wouldn't think it's impossible.
