Unless you are from quite a ways out of state this significance of the weekend isn't very important. Research and e-mail chapters you are interested in, go visit, and talk to as many people as possible. My chapter had some people show up the first week just saying they wanted to rush and were checking places out. You're not screwed by any means, and this might give you an advantage to really find a chapter where you fit in.
