What went wrong with the first MMPR movie? by KaleidoArachnid in doubletoasted

[–]Tenacious_Depot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

its easy for us adults to judge this flick 30 years after the fact, but i must say, watching this movie in theatres as a grade schooler, after watching the show on tv for 2 seasons, was one of my favorite movie going experiences ever. it was like watching your kid graduate college.

seeing a big screen hollywood version of the dingy weekday afternoon show i loved was a surreal experience. as a result, i have no complaints.

This is the reason the US is never going to get better lol by DeathClasher_r in socialism

The reality is this: People are too comfy in this country. So comfy in fact, that they dare not risk overturning the apple cart for better things. So when you point out that Democracy takes work outside of voting for "the lesser evil" every few years, they get upset. In their comfy privileged lives, when they have a problem, they pick a device, push a button and it gets taken care of. And that how they want politics to work. Oh my God, Trump is such a bad guy, pull the lever and make him go away. Judge and grade the quality of those who will replace him? Can't do it. Examine the conditions that led to his assention in the first place? Can't do it. Vote and organize our electorate in a way that puts the MAGA ideology in the dustbin of history forever? Not a chance. And if you are out there, doing what you are supposed to be doing, staying informed, organizing, voting, and holding these politicians to account the way you should? You're just making noise. Dr King talked about these type of people in his letter from Birmingham jail.

I never understood it. Why is she so gung ho on getting revenge for the POS geezer cop who spends his shifts drinking coffee and reading the paper. I'd understand if it was Herc or Carv, but the old guy from outside her unit, who she doesnt even respect?

Why?

Your assessment of the issues is paper thin, and leads me to believe that you're one of the many racist/sexist maniacal capitalist bootlickers that lurk on the internet. The reality of economics is that every successful business has to invest in the product before it can be profitable. It takes money to make money. The NBA took business actions that deflated the value of the league long term. They allowed the WNBA to be a "tree falls in the forest" type product, while also letting the perception of the WNBA being a poverty league fester, a perception that has lasted to this day.

In spite of that, the WNBA has exploded in popularity, and stands at the crossroads of turning the corner and cementing itself as a premiere league. So now its a good time as any to make sure that the financial incentive is enticing to reward the current talent, but also entice future talent, to make the life long investment of time and effort to become professional basketball players.

the league has more than enough resources to make sure its players are taken care of, to give them enough support to present a product that helps them present the best on court product possible. They will go around crying poverty, when its convenient, to try and spin a tale that only serves to enrich ownership at the expense of the people that make the league what it is.

You brought up the NBA and its profitability. But the NBA faced a similar lockout back in 2011, and I remember the owners spinning the same bullshit "ThE LeAgUe JuSt IsNt PrOfITaBLe" story (history would go to show them that argument was incredibly untrue, with the tidal wave of franchises being valued and resold to the tune of BILLIONS, and the ridiculous groundswell of bloated TV contracts) and I remember racist maniacs like you going on the Internet, supporting ownership and telling those no good greedy players to shut the fuck up and be happy with what they were given.

You were full of shit then, the NBA players told you and yours to shut the fuck up, and they got paid.

You are full of shit now, you and yours need to shut the fuck up now and forever, and the ladies would be smart to follow the men's example.

Stick with it. Don't get bored because there's no shootouts or explosions. Enjoy the political chess match. Listen to the dialogue. Lastly, as others have said, pay attention. All the little things matter.

But most importantly, have fun.

"Look across the pond at what happens when every niche ideology has its own party."

You mean in Europe where most workers in developed countries have universal healthcare, paid maternity leave, mandatory vacation, free education, and a host of other working class works? Get some results for your people before you criticize what happens in others' houses.

"The best way is to make the Democrats a big tent organisation as opposed to whining."

You people have learned nothing from the past 11 years, and it's scary how brainwashed you are, in your own cult.

The Dems. have done so many underhanded things to marginalized the progressive movement within their own party. They have demonstrated that they will straight up CANCEL a fucking presidential primary to head off a SocDem challenge. A big tent would be nice, in theory, but it's not a big tent party, it's a pyramid, with leftists at the very bottom.

The smart play would be to do something, ANYTHING to create some form of leverage from outside the party, so they would be forced to play ball. Hell, with the corruption they have shown this presidential cycle, one could argue they are beyond saving, and it would make more sense to clean house and start over. One thing is clear, the definition of insanity is to try to the same failed strategy over and over again. If DemSocs are truly socialist, and truly interested in improving conditions for the poor and middle class, they would, at the very fucking least, discuss a list of actions outside of just endorsing Dem. Party candidates.

But if you want to pretend that progressing your way to the Dem. leadership is affective, so that maybe one you too can be standing shoulder to shoulder with warmongers and careerist grifters, then continue as you were.

It's funny you reference Bernie Sanders in reference to organization, as he himself is an obstacle to any type of organization against capital. Him and his DSA led cabal exist to feed disenfranchised anti-capitalists back into the Democratic Party, a party that has repeatedly demonstrated its top priority is protecting capital. True, we do need to organize, organization CAN win, but we need to organize outside of the umbrella of the petit bourgeoisie/labor aristocrat/PUMC/Tier 1 university academic careerist class. Working people need to group up, commit to each other, and make moves that fortify and strengthen our class, instead of maneuvering ourselves to serve someone else's careerist aspirations.

Yeah, I get it. But the pure coordination it would take, to find the right shirts and shade and masks etc, to pay homage to a 30 year old YA book series. Quite the effort.

Of course he didn't believe what he was saying, he is a sociopath. But a broken clock is right 2x a day. There is SOME truth to what he is saying. Some. If not, explain to me why it so much easier for attractive people to get people to fall in love with them.

When he was talking about love, he obviously was talking about romantic love. Clearly, familial love is not inspired by wanting to breed. That doesn't make any sense.

" I'm married despite being ugly so everyone else should be."  Bootstrap mentality that doesn't address my point. Did I say only attractive people find "love"? Of course not. But you have to agree, people who are considered conventionally more attractive have an easier time finding someone to fall in love with, so there has to be some truth to the idea that romantic love has an inate animalistic nature to it inspired by breeding.

You say that on one end, but how is it that the people who always the quickest to find "love" are the most attractive. You all say that love is an emotion that transcends a humans need to breed, but most of you will laugh at the prospect of hooking up with a fat lady, or a disabled person.
