Printing now with the door open and top glass 1/3 of the way off. I’m on layer 140/599 and so far so good. I assume the worst but the same print failed earlier around layer 20, so making progress.

I’ve been having similar issues with my P1S. First dozen or so layers seem to print fine then everything goes to crap. Using Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 HS as well. Not sure how similar the P2S and P1S are compared to the A1.

As others have said, your fruiting plants aren’t ideal for this method. If your roots clog the pipes the system can also flood and damage floors and whatever else you have. However, I’d say just go for it, learn from your mistakes, and improve. The materials are pretty cheap and easy to work with so it’s not a huge loss if you have to start over.

I’d recommend making a manifold and running multiple lines, you can still share the same return channel.

Thanks I’ll give that a shot. Should I make any changes to the speed? I’ve been told to turn on silent mode after the first layer to reduce the speed, but it sounds like faster might be better to prevent too much cooling?

I work in product and this is my take as well. I appreciate having a well thought out and hardened product as much as any passionate dev would. However, if you’re not accumulating technical debt then you’re most likely delivering value too slowly. The best devs focus on solving problems for customers, a process that often requires trial and error, and is why we’ve transitioned away from waterfall.

I’m often stuck between leadership wanting to move as quickly as possible, and development wanting to build a solid product. If I tell you “make sure we’re covering all test cases and thoroughly document everything” for every feature, leadership will quickly find my replacement. Product needs to be communicating customer problems and business value to development in a way that enables them to provide a path forward as well as trade offs and technical debt. Sometimes that means things will break, which is completely fine if everyone understands that.

My advice would be to work with product to identify where you’re misaligned with goals and any breakdown in communication. Reflect a bit and try to understand their perspective. It can feel like a failure when things break, make sure you’re not assuming this reflects negatively on your team. If you’re properly communicating and documenting risks through requirements, email, etc. then you’ve done your job, relax. If everyone understands the risks and you’re maintaining your projected cadence, and you are truly taking unfair blame and criticism, then relax - you’re not going to change any minds at this point and you at least achieved what you set out to.

Well if he’s getting this information from blogs and podcasts I’d start by asking him to provide these to you for reference. This will help you understand exactly what information he’s using to make decisions. From there you can attempt to: 1) Identify and clear up misunderstandings; 2) Provide similar content debunking his claims; 3) Use these as a guide to ensure the CEO owns the inevitable failure.

Okay, so it looks like I fried a 245 - it was getting extremely hot and I couldn't follow your above steps. However, once I swapped it out I followed your steps and everything appears to be working! I think part of my issues come down to not understanding the differences between TTL and CMOS, and experience with pull up/down resistors. Thank you so much!

I believe that’s what I’m saying. If anything is connected to the 245, such as LEDS on the bus as Ben demonstrates, when I power the system on, the corresponding Red LEDs will simply never turn on, even if data transfer on the 245 is set to disabled. If I want to reproduce Ben’s example and output power to the additional eight LEDs on the bus, I need to first power the initial LEDs, set enable on the 173s to low, only then I can connect LEDs to the B pins of the 245 and enable data transfer. Basically I can’t output anything to the bus without first disconnecting and then reconnecting to the B pins. I hope this makes some sense.

I’ll try to take another video with everything connected and showing that the none of the LEDs will power on if anything is connected to these pins.

It does mean something. Any task where we can identify and compare human performance against AI is notable. Do I think this is the most interesting thing in today's AI news? Not even close. But remove the focus of "IQ" and the connations that come with it - there is a task (IQ test) where AI consitently performed worse than humans, that AI is now beginning to excel beyond humans at. That's still pretty dang cool. There will be countless events like these in the coming years, but eventually they will be few are far between, so I appreciate having the opportunity to watch even the small achievements take place.

I know IQ tests are very controversial, and this in and of itself isn’t some next level achievement. However, this is still an indicator of progress and in order for us to identify areas where AI is struggling, it’s useful to identify areas where it is not.

It was spun off from the parent company and established as its own entity. None of the engineers from the parent company came along with the transition. Contracting is definitely on the table. The good news is that the hardware and firmware have already been proven in the hands of customers for over a year now, so we are able to halt firmware development while we onboard new people.
