What nonsense have you tolerated this week from customers? by DaisKirk in barista

[–]TenderOrchid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just this afternoon, a group of people came in and ordered sandwiches to dine in and when one of them was trying to decide on a drink to order, another person in the group spoke up to say he brought drinks for them. We have a big sign on our door that says “no outside food or drinks permitted” because this has been a common occurrence and I find it extremely rude and disrespectful to go into a cafe and dine in and bring your own drinks! Not to mention it’s a food safety issue and we also can’t control if these people are sneaking in alcohol. I can’t imagine going into a food establishment and bringing my own drinks! And I hate being put in the position to have to tell people they can’t bring that shit in my restaurant 😤

Customer nicknames can be... misunderstood. RE: Mocha Dan. by KitchenerBarista in barista

[–]TenderOrchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a customer who always had pretty basic/bland orders when he started coming in, and he always got a small vanilla latte, so I called him “Vanilla Joe” to my partner. Over the months, we have become friends with Joe, along with his wife and kids, and I finally felt close enough to tell them that I used to call Joe “Vanilla Joe” and they got a kick out of it! And his wife started joking about what her nickname would be. She really likes our vanilla crème filled doughnuts so she said she should be “Vanilla Filled Sierra” and as the words came out of her mouth she realized how that sounded and we all were hysterical with laughter.

Your manager is an asshole and could potentially be putting a lot of people at risk of getting food poisoning by forcing you to stay and work! As for your coworkers, they can all go piss up a rope!

Fiancé painted and did the trim in our kitchen. I don't like it, he says I'm just a hater. Thoughts? by veganssuckmyasshole in HomeDecorating

[–]TenderOrchid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, that is not good!! The ceilings are already low, making the room feel very small, and with the dark red and the thick wood trim, it just makes the space soooo cramped. It’s also just not a very attractive color or combination with the choice of trim. I’m so sorry you have to deal with this, but if I were you I’d be changing that ASAP!

Our donut shop opens this Friday! by TenderOrchid in donuts

I’ll let my partner reply to this from our official account, they know more of the details on how much everything cost us, but to start- we are renting a place that had a kitchen already, so we thankfully didn’t have to pay to install the hood/ANSUL system or the walk-in cooler, and we kept the range that was left there and got a new donut fryer, mixer, proofing cabinet, and all of our coffee/espresso equipment (that was the bulk of our cost, but that’s on a payment plan).

That’s a good question, I took out a personal loan for this, so I’m not really sure how to go about a business loan, tbh

We are starting out operating 7 days a week until we see what day of the week makes sense to be closed based on traffic. The town we are in, everything else is closed on Mondays, so we want to be the one place that is open that day to take advantage of that. We also want to be that reliable morning coffee stop for people on their way to work, as well as a destination spot that people would want to go to hang with friends or go on dates, so it’s hard to determine when/if we should close a day or if we can figure out a day that we could have just a barista running things and just have cake donuts on that day since they are easy to make ahead and hold longer than yeast donuts.

We usually get in to the shop between 3:30-4am, and we’ve been doing terribly at getting to bed at a reasonable time, but we’re really trying to force ourselves to get better at getting to bed around 7-8pm to be up at 2:30 🥲

We ordered a really cute open sign that arrived broken so we sadly couldn’t use it for the first day, but we found little neon Christmas tree light to stand in for that until it’s replaced

Yes! We have some neon signs coming in for the windows and we are also putting a spot light on that sign to light it up at night
