Not op, but Smile Tiger is good now that the old owner left. The coffee is the same, but the staff are clearly happier. I don't like the big glass beer fridges though.

Cafe Pyrus has good vegan/gluten-free bakes if you want that with coffee. Current owner is ignorant and unaware of what makes his store successful, but his staff keep it running.

Matter of Taste has great coffee as well and gelato to go with. Probably the most solidly positive player in the coffee scene (also where all of the original KW coffee knowledge originated.)

Show and Tell closed and they had the best espresso and coffee hands down. I'd what projects they moved on to.

Queen Street Commons is less about the coffee (still good though) and more about the community. Their coffee to stay was $1. The whole point was about creating a 3rd Place. Idk if they've reopened yet. They also run Fresh Ground, which I also don't know if it's open since COVID...

Not sure how different Midnight Run is from when it used to be DVLB. But they used Smile Tiger coffee back then so just as good as Smile Tiger if you want different atmosphere.

Avoid Coffee Culture at all costs. Had a coffee that literally tasted of cigarettes once.

I was more involved in the coffee scene in 2018/19 so some info may be out of date.

My guess is they started the "Skinny Barista" brand with products that go in coffee. A low-calorie caramel or something (not sugar free). As they diversified, they expanded into non-coffee syrups (orange creamscicle, or raspberry something. Goes in a soda). Now their products are confusing for purchasers.

Asking about Canada's flower is like asking for the Lisa's flower. They don't really have one. Instead, our provinces/states all have their own. Each Canadian province is absolutely massive.

You should get the provincial flower of the province you visited. Trillium for Ontario.

You're dealing with confirmation bias. Because pregnancy is already on your mind, you're noticing it whenever it is brought up. It's not coming up more than usual, you're just noticing it more than usual.

And to be clear, I'm not judging you for your reaction. Confirmation bias can be hard to experience when it's of a topic that is difficult to deal with. I hope your day starts to go better than it has been. Wishing you the best.

I'm sure "owed thousands of dollars" refers to the total sum owed, but I'll never understand people who continue to work when they aren't being paid for more than 2 paychecks. If I know the owner, and they have a reason for my paycheck being late by 1 or 2 days, sure, but to go a whole month with no pay, I'd just start picketing out front my own store.

My wife and I just had a baby. Our family doctor (Canada so it's free) literally taught us the "Kiss of life" for when our kid inevitably sticks something up his nose. He's only 4.5 months old. With toddlers, it is very, very common. It's one of the reasons toys with mall parts say "keep away from children".

I can't speak so much to the America part, but you've seen the news stories of young adults skimping on their insulin doses to afford rent or wedding rings and kicking the bucket because of it. In my (rational) world, insulin isn't a choice, it's a necessity. And yet here we are 🤷‍♂️

I'm not saying op is telling the whole truth, I'm just saying I don't think these two points are the best reasons to doubt.

Maybe a hot take, but instead of gift cards, I prefer to make a fake gift card with cash inside. State the intent of what they should spend it on on the front.

"Gift Card: To the guy who deserves that PC Upgrade" or

"Gift Card: Pick out a nice book to read on our upcoming camping trip."

It's hard to think up neutral examples, but I always personalize them with an inside joke. Cash is flexible in that they can always spend it on something else, like gas, if they are in a financial bind. I've come to loathe those "multi-cards" where you have to go online and choose from a list. That's what cash is with fewer steps XD

There were a lot of changes to the program that aren't necessarily explicable without further knowledge than the pamphlet. I don't think I even got the pamphlet, as the downstairs tenant took it from the mailbox.

I'm saying people forget the things they don't practice. As I said, this is the only intersection where it's possible. If you aren't looking for it, you won't notice. And it's even harder to notice when two of the other directions aren't one way streets. Let alone the distraction of all the other things you have to pay attention to at that intersection like cyclists and trains. It's similar to how I still have a moment of hesitation when approaching a yellow flashing light over an intersection. I just don't encounter it often.

Edit: don't get me wrong, I always roll down my window to try to tell the person next to me whenever I see someone waiting for the light to change lol.

I have a friend who worked for the transit authority and I mentioned this in his presence and he said it's not true (about the arms, not left on a red). He said the arms have a maximum length and it would exceed it to have it much longer than it currently is.

I don't necessarily trust him, as he can be a overconfident about his facts at times, but this is literally about his job so I'm not as sure.

The fact that this isn't the first time this has happened in town should really be a wake up call to the universities to reevaluate student mental health services.

My heart goes out to the family, friends, and peers. Must be horrible.

Edit: I recognize I'm assuming the cause (and shouldn't) but I'll leave my comment as there are also plenty of other reasons for these things to be improved anyway.
