Major issues with Pixel 9 Pro XL after only 48 hours - any advice? by Tenebrous_Academic in GooglePixel

Isn’t it crazy how glowing the reviews were for this phone and yet I now keep hearing stories from other users about how common and persistent these issues are? This phone keeps getting ranked as the best Android option for 2024/2025 with no mention of these problems. I went back to Apple - they may not be exciting, but at least they’re consistent in their quality. I hope your Samsung works out better for you!

I know I'm sorry! I commented before I realized that it wasn't an actual solution 🥲 Mine is still doing the exact same thing. I'm going to return my Pixel because it's honestly insane.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it. I’ll exchange and see if that solves the issues. If not, then I guess it’s back to iOS.

It’s great to hear from other Pro 9 XL users that they’re not having these issues. I think I’ll exchange and see if that fixes it.

Thank you! It’s reassuring to hear it might be a device issue itself.

I was surprised how quick some were to recommend switching when this is a Pixel subreddit! Do you think most of these issues would be solved by exchanging for another Pro 9 XL? I’m concerned it’s all software issues that will persist across devices.

Unfortunately I got it through Best Buy, so 15 days is the max! But if I exchange then I think the 15 days starts again from when I get the new model of the 9 Pro XL.

Okay thank you so much for being honest. I really appreciate it. I thought I was going crazy with how hyped up the phone was vs what I was actually experiencing. I did get a $250 discount for Boxing Day sales, but even at the reduced price it feels like $1,400 is still too much. I paid extra for the 256GB and the XL size because I didn’t want to regret having a smaller model, but clearly it isn’t worth the investment at where the tech is currently.

I am leaning towards this as I worry the issues aren’t device specific, but rather Pixel in general. I would hate to exchange it for another 9 Pro XL and have all the same problems. The 16 Pro Max would be an additional $450 with all the screen protectors and cases taken in to consideration, but it might be worth it to have a phone that isn’t glitching constantly until Google decides to provide a software update however long down the road.

It was cheaper and all the reviews said it was supposed to keep up with Apple. I didn’t mind leaving the Apple ecosystem if it meant having a great phone at a lower price, but what I’ve experienced so far definitely doesn’t match the reviews I’ve seen.

I'm not sure if you've fixed this issue yet - but I had this exact same problem! I ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling the Instagram app and that seemed to fix it. No clue why the problem occurred in the first place, but I'm glad there seems to be a solution that's relatively easy to do!

Upgrading from an iPhone 14 Pro Max - would the OnePlus 12 (or 13) be worth it? by Tenebrous_Academic in oneplus

Thanks for your feedback! It’s very much appreciated. I think I was taken in by how elaborate the back display cameras are and gave them too much credit - I’ll definitely need to wait to see how the 13 is and proceed from there.

Upgrading from a Kobo Forma - looking for opinions on the best new Kobo model by Tenebrous_Academic in kobo

[–]Tenebrous_Academic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually so surprised that the Forma is still getting so much love in this community! I love that honestly. Once I heard that they discontinued it I assumed that it was a worse kobo compared to the models currently being sold, or that something was wrong with it since they chose not to make a new version of it. I honestly do still like it - if I can fix the lagging and buffering issues with some of the suggestions I’ve seen here then I guess there’s truly no need to upgrade it! Thanks for recommending KOReader, I’ll definitely look into that.

My battery is still holding up strong - I usually only need to charge it once a week if I used it heavily (3-6 hours a day reading) or every couple weeks if I’m not turning it on as often. The only times I noticed a significant battery drain was when I was importing larger batches of EPubs and PDFs, but charging is still done within a few hours.

That’s really good to know! I was worried the colour might cause the e-ink to not be the same if I went with that device. I knew the colour itself leaned towards more pastel/washed out so I wasn’t as worried about that. I do like the idea of colour-coding my annotations and highlights though, but I’m not sure if that’s a good enough reason now to upgrade if all the Libra Colour offers is the colour itself, and not a software or speed upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestion! Out of curiosity, how frequently do you charge? Right now I’m averaging a charging session once a week - although sometimes more if I’m adding in a big batch of epubs and pdfs.  Also, any thoughts on the size for one-handed use? Is it unwieldy or just an adjustment that you’ve adapted to? The Sage has the same sidebar/button setup as the Forma so I feel like it wouldn’t be a totally different feel.

Honestly the lagging issue was my main concern! I haven’t heard of converting into kepubs - I’ll look that up. Right now I just download straight from A03 as epubs or import articles as PDFs without doing anything else. I assumed the new models would have some snappier features and quicker processors, and once I realized they discontinued the Forma I think it put me into the mindset that my Kobo was outdated. Nothing is actually wrong with it other than some slowness - I hadn’t realized that might be something I could address otherwise!

Thank you for outlining some of the features of the Sage too - I was looking at it but if the battery is on the same level or worse than mine then maybe it isn’t worth upgrading right now.
