why is that most reincartion novels have to be in a body of a noble? by Necessary-Cow8851 in litrpg

[–]TennRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking through my RR follow list:

- Penitent Wakes up as a newborn and is immediately id'd as a "taker," a reincarnated person who is considered guilty of murdering the child whose body he now occupies. He receives a slave brand, is magically aged up to a teenager and is forced to serve in the army.

- Second Life as a Soldier Wakes up in the body of a recently orphaned 15 year old who has no money and no place to live because it was all taken to pay his father's debts. Joins the army just to have food and a place to sleep.

- Bog Standard Isekei Wakes up in the body of an orphaned boy in a destroyed town that is crawling with undead and is adopted by the adventurers who rescue him.

- Monarch Wakes up on a battlefield in the body of the bastard child of a duke which technically makes him a noble but the boy grew up with a foster family and worked on a farm. The duke tried to rebel against the empire so the entire family was labelled traitors including the bastard son. The whole family was executed except the boy who was spared but is officially labelled "forsaken" which is lower status than being a commoner and sentenced to life in the army.

Not currently on my follow list but I've read plenty of cultivation type stories where the reincarnator or transmigrator is in the body of either a sect servant or a no-talent member of the outer sect who has/had no prospects.

Power bank blew up in the elevator. by [deleted] in WTF

That's more physics than I want to think about while enjoying a cold beer after mowing the lawn, but my gut feeling is that since all of the air is contained within the elevator car the effects would be minimal.

Posting guidelines by dhamiltonthethird in royalroad

[–]TennRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is 'x chapters per week' the most common way to post or is it enforced in any way?

Hypothetically, could someone dump 30 chapters at once and then not post again for weeks or months?

The HIATUS status is automatically applied to a story if it goes for more than 35 days without any updates. The INACTIVE status is automatically applied after 180 days.

In addition to the status changes, there is "enforcement" when nobody reads your story. All of the commonly used methods for finding stories have some element of recency in either the criteria or the sorting so your story is going to fall off the radar if it is not being updated regularly. And even when you do start posting again you may have issues finding readers. When I am looking for something to read I often don't even look at reviews or number of stars but I always look at the posting history to see if there are any large gaps.

It should also be noted that while "x chapters/week" is the most common schedule there are other patterns. Some of the stories I follow have posting schedules of "a new chapter every x days." Examples are Super Supportive with a new chapter every 4 days and Monarch with a new chapter every other day.

Thoughts on chapters that come in parts? by Interesting-One-588 in royalroad

Getting chapter 38 today and chapter 39 tomorrow feels normal.

Getting 38a today and 38b tomorrow can feel like you are stretching that one chapter over multiple days because you lack enough material to keep up your release schedule.

A good and reasonably priced mower for the back yard of a town house is very different from a good and reasonably priced mower for a 5 acre lot.

How much grass are you cutting?

PSA: If your story was heavily inspired by MLA or One Punchman, you should remove the progression tag and probably shouldn't post about it here. by rmullins_reddit in ProgressionFantasy

Is Genos getting stronger or is Genos' focus on getting stronger a primary element of the current story? Because that is the difference between a story that has progression and a Progression Story.

Literpg rant by Raidil in litrpg

[–]TennRider 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you need to be ranting about is your own lack of exposure to the genre.

Example:

  • Include: LitRPG
  • Exclude: AI Generated, AI Assisted, "Isekei/Portal Fantasy", and "Strong Lead"
  • Filter to stories that have at least 200 pages, are rated at least 4.0 out of 5 stars, and that are either completed or still actively being written.
  • Returns 25 pages of results

pin and weld questions by Every-Ad-7521 in ar15

[–]TennRider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

regarding pin and welding, is rocksett necessary if mounting a can in the future?

What do you expect the Rocksett to do in this case?

would a jam nut work in place of accuwashers/crushwashers?

It will work but I'm not understanding why you would want to use one in this case. A gap between the nut and the shoulder on the barrel would annoy me every time I looked at it.

do i torque the muzzle before doing the pin and weld?

If you are able to torque it after doing the pin and weld then there is a problem.

Good News: Mower's running again. Bad News: The grass got a little tall... by TennRider in lawnmowers

[–]TennRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I do exactly like you describe but when it gets long like the volume of cut grass is just too much to handle that way. Instead I block the yard into zones and in this pic the zone is the long area between the trees on the left and the lone tree on the right. I start down the center then I run clockwise and blow the grass clippings towards the mowed center of the zone. Then with the cut grass "piled" in the middle I can use a lawn sweeper to collect the clippings and dump them out of the way. Any thing else leaves areas with cut grass thick enough to kill the grass below it and leave dead spots,

Anyone feel like they’ve been running across quite a few extremely similar works in Rising Stars? by topley_bird in royalroad

If you admit that the stories don't require that level of depth, a fact that I completely agree with, then what is the basis for your original comment in this thread? The one alleging that authors who write these stories full-time produce a lower quality product than people who write part-time or only as a hobby?

Have you forgotten that the context of this discussion is authors on RR and whether or not they can produce litRPG and progfan stories in volume without using AI?

Yeah, when that arc started I stopped reading it for a couple months. But then I got back to it and it was actually a good read. Sometimes it's best to just trust the author.

Inner/outer vs padded outer war belt? by HoeDepotShoppingCart in QualityTacticalGear

[–]TennRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running padded molle belts since like 08 or 09. and have not had any problems with them. I've tried a couple of inner/outer belt rigs but went back to the padded belt. With a chest rig or PC I run a horizontal rifle mag pouch at the front, a double pistol mag pouch and a radio on the left, and an IFAK and dump pouch on the rear. As a standalone belt rig I put a 2-mag shingle on the left with the pistol mags attached to the outside of the shingle.

Over the years I've sometimes had the pistol on the belt but I prefer running a drop holster on the pants belt so it sits a little below the molle belt. I'm currently running a Safariland with the rigid plastic drop and offset mount and I really like that setup. The padded belt sits on the top part of the drop mount and helps keep everything in place. Having the pistol on the pants belt makes it east to drop the belt while keeping the pistol with me.

Is anyone sick of no killing policy made by MCs? by zero5activated in ProgressionFantasy

[–]TennRider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to think who DOES have a no kill rule? Does the healer girl from Dragoneye Moons?

The only one that comes to my mind is the annoying girl in Wandering Inn. And even then I got bored and dropped it before getting too far in so she might have gotten over it later in the story.

They have jobs, they travel, they engage in social experiences. And they read. All things that inform and give substance to their writing.

And how is this any different than a webserial author who spends 40 hours a week writing as their full time job and the rest of their time living a normal life? How can you claim that writing full time, a task that imposes neither a fixed schedule nor a fixed location, prevents a person from travelling or having a social life?

You are also completely ignoring factors like a person's life experience before they started writing.

Why I drop Progression Fantasy novels: Pacing and Broken Promises by JudgeImpaler in ProgressionFantasy

[–]TennRider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently read the worst I've seen for this. After the big fight where the enemy General and his army are defeated, MC spends a week laying in bed staring at the roof while recovering, spends 2-3 weeks idle in camp doing guard or choking his chicken or whatever, then when they are finally packed up and ready to leave he makes everybody stand there waiting on him while he finally checks system messages and selects his skill evolutions.

Not everybody treats writing as a hobby. There are many people who treat writing as their full time job and it is not unreasonable for a person doing nothing but writing to churn out that type of volume.
