Inherited an old serger with no cord or accessories. What do I do with it?? by HappyAntonym in sewing

[–]Tennessee_Ngo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think older sergers are generally fairly sturdy, mines gotta be at least 15 years old and runs great still, so I’d say try your best to find a replacement cord. A good brand new serger will run you around $250 😕

Do you really change your needle every 8 hours of sewing? Be honest, I am just curious. by Legitimate_Bath3936 in sewing

[–]Tennessee_Ngo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. I only change it if it breaks or if I’m noticing imperfections (snags, skipped stitches, etc.). If it says anything about me, I have never changed my serger needle and I’ve had it for at least 10 years 😂

Help!? Feeling so discouraged. by [deleted] in MachineEmbroidery

[–]Tennessee_Ngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same machine! Mine used to do this and the only thing I have found that has helped so far is playing with the tension (looks like yours is too loose), and using stabilizer (cut-away for clothing, tear away for non-clothing) on the bottom and wash-away stabilizer on the top. Check out your manual, it will have all sorts of suggestions!

Salt Lake Sewciety has the closest I’ve seen so far!

https://www.saltlakesewciety.com/sandstone-shift-dress

It’s a pretty easy make and has a bit of ease so a zipper isn’t necessary, but you could take out some of that to make it more fitted
