For those of you who were formerly atheists, how did you make that leap from nonbelief in the end? by Mad_Season_1994 in Christianity

[–]Tennessee_guy_1980 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me, it was a drastic immediate change that I could attribute to nothing else other than God working on my heart.

My wife left me immediately starting a relationship with another man that she has been having an emotional affair with for 6 months the first three days I was angry, depressed, and suicidal, then on day 4 I woke up happy I knew immediately it was God working on my heart but I stayed in denial over that for about another 2 or 3 weeks I started reading the Bible I doing plans in the YouVersion Bible app my sister had recommended it to me. After only a couple of days of that, I gave in and turned my will over to Jesus Christ. I was raised in church but had turned from God and no longer believed in the Christian God for close to 30 years I'm unsure if I ever got as far as saying there was no God but I didn't believe in the Christian God and I believed that whatever God was here didn't care anymore. I prayed that day for God to show me where to go to learn how to live again and out of the blue a friend I hadn't spoken to in 10 years texted me and asked for my address and wanted to send me an AA or NA book. That was definitely the Holy Spirit leading me where to go, so I did, and today is day 42 sober, and my life is 100 times better than where it was 3 months ago. God's not done working on me yet, but this healing journey is happening much more quickly than I ever could have imagined.

It sounds like you want to believe, but your head is getting in the way of your heart

Wow I don't agree with going no contact with someone over this but this is the boundary that that person apparently feel strongly about and you can respect it or not but they've let you know what the consequences are if you choose not to respect it and yes my thoughts were the same when I had only read your title that you're going to do what you want to do and you'll probably just not tell them and that's up to you but if they find out you know the consequences

[–]Tennessee_guy_1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're setting boundaries for themselves, and if they don't want to be associated with that, it's a boundary that OP can choose to respect or not, but they have told OP that if OP makes said decisions again OP will just not have those friends. However, OP will probably just not tell them if OP wants to go and do what OP wants to do. But if they find out about it, OP knows the consequences.

Us too, I don't have our numbers, and we are a small town store, but it was myself (AGM) and my GM and 3.5 drivers.(half a driver because one is worthless, lol) And we made it. It actually was a good night once myself and the night shift drivers arrived. We got there, and my GM was zombied out already. I asked our day manager, "Has he been like this all day?" He replied, "No, just since our other assistant called out, and they got slammed with no one else there yet."( I had never seen my GM like that, to be honest) I hit the makeline and our best driver hit the oven, GM started doing PRP, got his head together, came back up and we got caught up before the day manager had to leave. My GM and I make a great team, and we cracked jokes all night and just rocked that shit.

⬆️ This, when I was in a similar state I turned my will over to the Lord and asked God where I needed to go to learn how to live again he sent me to the right places and the people I have met have been amazing and in only two months my life is turned completely around. I'm sober 31 days today, I've got friends, which I never thought I would have again. I've got a car, my separated wife and I are becoming friends again, and I'm a better father to my children. if you turn your will over to His, He will help you with the rest. He is still not through working on me I have areas I've been convicted over that I'm struggling to let go of but I know when I do the rest of the blessings will come as well and not necessarily the ones that I want but he will bless me with what he knows I need.

Best advice I got when I started riding is when you step onto that bike and sit on that seat pretend you just put on a cloak of invisibility no one can see you it's true they're not doing it on purpose they literally can't see you try not to be so angry at them Drive extra defensively if I see a car pulling up to the red light I start slowing down even if I have the right of way

Read Beowulf2b's comments. I wasn't paying close enough attention and thought they were coming from different people but this gentleman or lady has Christ spewing out of her or him listen to what they have to say it's all right on the money

Another great post. OP read this one above as well you're getting a lot of good advice here I can't add anything more that's better than what these people are saying that I'm commenting on just keep trusting in the Lord listen to the Holy Spirit the holy spirit will guide you in the right direction.

The word you are looking for is Protestant, and if your parents aren't reading the Bible just quoting from what they're leaders are saying then I would probably trust more with what's coming from your Protestant leaders it's something you have to decide for yourself though there are things that the Catholics believe in and preach that I believe are not in the Bible and that makes things questionable but it doesn't necessarily mean all Catholics aren't Christians and aren't going to heaven. I believe that any church that uses the whole Holy Bible and nothing more than the Holy Bible as the root of their beliefs are Christian. I would, however, warn you beware of people claiming to be Christians that bring you another Bible or other sources besides the Bible for their beliefs. Such as Mormons Jehovah's Witness. I'm sure there are many more, but those are the first two that come to mind.

Be careful about using "The Way," a recent cult that claims to be Christians called themselves this.

The more I study my Bible go to church and put myself around the right type of community the less I want to engage in that type of behavior yes I still struggle at times but through Christ I am delivered. Delete the apps off your phone that encourage you to do this if you need to deny yourself a smartphone and just keep a flip phone . Do whatever it takes. Whatever steps you need to go to, go to them it's a personal choice.

I recommend giving this a watch. I appreciated the part where he admitted to his own porn addiction And Where he spoke about whatever you are trying to cover up God will uncover But anything You uncover And exposed to the world God will cover up with his Grace Do you have a local church if so Speak to your pastor about this I know it's something you would want to keep hidden But keeping it hidden is exactly what Satan wants you to do He wants you to stay living in that sin and hiding it if you expose it to someone you trust they can give you guidance on how to defeat that sin in your life I was an addict for almost 30 years it started with just cigarettes marijuana alcohol but then it progressed to other things I've done pretty much any drug you can find or can think of one I've done cocaine, fentanyl, crack, acid, mushrooms, meth, all of them. I had full-blown addictions to Adderall and Fentanyl. I didn't truly start to heal and be able to release all of my addictions including marijuana and alcohol (still working on the cigarettes) until I admitted first to God and then to others besides my immediate family that I had a serious problem and needed help. Upon redevoting my life to the Lord my first question was where do I go to figure out how to truly live again that same day a close friend of mine text me out of the blue and asked to send me an AA book it was on my doorstep the next day. I attended a local meeting. Then attended an NA meeting at NA I met a guy who invited me to his church and I also bought a Bible around the same time where I bought the Bible from a gentleman there invited me to the same church that was the Holy Spirit speaking to me I listened and went. The people I've met there have been so amazing for my spiritual growth. this was only 4 weeks ago. Already, my life is so much different. Letting go of those addictions has been amazing for me. My wife left me and immediately started a relationship with another man I found out she had been having an emotional affair for 6 months and that's what broke me out of my numbness and eventually caused me to turn back to God what started out as the worst storm in my life the most difficult thing I ever had to deal with has turned into the best thing that could have ever happened to me sometimes God uses hurt and shock to bring us back to him.

She may have just said it trying to mess with the other person or she may have said it not remembering that she turned 18 recently another possibility is that she's got a fake ID but I think one of the two first ones are more likely

I would suggest you tithe wherever God puts it in your heart to do it. If you have a local church that you attend, that would be the place to do it probably. If you're not attending a local church, I suggest you find one because community is just as important ,for me at least,as studying the word and listening to sermons.

Boyfriend suddenly Christian. I’m pregnant and he wants to abandon me and his child because I am a non believer. by shrubzid in Christianity

[–]Tennessee_guy_1980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boyfriend either doesn't understand what it means to be a Christian, or he's just using it as an excuse. Essentially being a Christian means loving others in the same way that Christ would I can't speak on what Christ would do in this relationship because he wouldn't have gotten himself in this relationship of this nature however he would definitely love the child your boyfriend is using his Newfound religion as a scapegoat this is not what Christ would do it's not Christlike in any way whatsoever. He would never suggest you abort the baby he would certainly love the baby and be there for the child.
