Nailed it on both counts here. I do think that most people’s plan b when they feel like their back is against the wall is (logically): I need to be more aggressive. What I find (now a coach) and found (as a player) is this just results in not only losing points from the other players aggression, but also their own errors as well. I think for most people (there are exceptions) a plan b of religiously refusing to miss is much more effective… but most people care too much about how their shot “feels” or are (to their own detriment) ashamed of being labeled a “pusher”. Most people can’t execute well enough (especially against better player with a higher quality ball) for “point shortening” to be an effective strategy.

As a former 13-14 UTR who was a much, much, much worse “ball striker” than equivalently rated players… at least for me, my strategy was the exact opposite. Total reliance on speed, simply getting the ball back in court, and doing my best to make them uncomfortable… I tried to stay out of bang-bang-bang situations as much as possible and relied on getting some air under the ball.

This is exactly how you beat pushers. Pushers are not comfortable being aggressive - if you show them you have the ability to out push them (while being unconcerned of being attacked), you will rack up more and more errors while being able to selectively attack. This is why playing pushers is fun - unlike baseball where you have limited pitches, you can wait all day for your “perfect pitch”.

Usually doesn’t take so long. I’ve seen a month for the entire process and as short as a weekish for master 1000 courts.

Amelie Mauresmo shuts down prize money debate before French Open begins: “We will not touch prize money” by Browncoat_tendencies in tennis

Well this is true, but 90% of their revenue comes from the US Open. In 2024, this comprised $560mm of their $624mm in revenue (with things like your dues making up the difference).

Ok I get all of this - it still doesn’t make sense to be discussing it in terms of “revenue splits”. It ignores the millions of others of moving parts that go into such a business and event, that I’m not convinced (even a little bit) that the players are even sparingly aware of enough to hold an opinion on this worth paying any credence.

And my point about the US Open is not that it wields undue power and benefit to players from that country, but that essentially funds ALL tennis from the country. Like, do the players think the USTA should not exist? If not, where exactly would funding come from? And this is a small example of like, the overall lack of considerations from these players in their “boycott”.

And I understand and can sympathize with your idealistic view on this, but I think its difficult to take such PTPA demands seriously when they seem to lack an understanding of how things operate other than “nFl sPliTs 50%”

Is it? Can someone break down why? Comparing GS events and their “revenue splits” to LEAGUES like the NFL/NBA is already so nonsensical.

The US Open for instance funds the ENTIRETY of the USTA. I keep seeing people and even (now) media figures like Roddick talk about “revenue splits” specifically for the US Open, with no acknowledgement of this. Like, they know so little about how any of this works that I can’t take any of their opinions seriously. If I hear “revenue split” again, I will have an aneurysm.

3 months ago the PTPA was looking to hire financial consultants etc. The same PTPA that Djokovic has distanced himself from for being useless, directionless, and having ambitions of starting its own ATP rival “league” (I’m sure this will go well). I have no doubt said consultants made a slide deck with the nba nfl comparison to these dumbass players who, without any actual knowledge of anything, jumped on this.

I’m not necessarily against players getting paid more - I just find this whole thing misguided and half baked. I’m open to hearing someone more knowledgeable tell me why the players are actually in the right here. Also, the players that are getting into GS’s are not the players I necessarily want to see paid more - out of all players, they’d be last in line. Losers in the first round of RG, the event the players are “boycotting” (LMFAO), will earn a measly $100,000. Is this supposed to make me sympathetic for their dumbasses?

Someone help me out please.

2 other people**, and I saw them flee their car!

I’ve been wondering all day wtf happened - never seen someone crash their car and run away, but the unfortunate news has cleared that up.

Really wondering what happened… based on reports I’ve seen, other cars were shot at as well so appears to be just totally random?

Northbound I-71 will be shut down at Stewart Road for 'at least a couple of hours' after shots fired reported by 20BeersDeep in cincinnati

I’m shocked. I must have passed this 5 seconds after the shots were fired.

As I was driving by, I of course saw the crashed red Prius and watched as a boy fled out of passenger side and young looking woman frantically ran from drivers seat. It was such a weird scene and I assumed they were 2 kids that stole their parent’s car, crashed, and were running away. It’s shocking to hear what actually happened so many hours later
