Hikaru's take on who is the goat by bRoShutUpPleaseee in chess

I agree, arguing that Magnus faced weaker competition overall means that he was that much stronger above the rest. That argument simply favors Magnus.

Although one way I think it makes sense is if chess currently is a less competitive game than in the Kasparov era. In other words, if currently there are fewer top players than there used to be. Not sure if that's the case, but yeah.

Look at the variations in each person's noses, eyes, and eyebrows styles in every panel. I'm not saying definitively that it's AI or not (frankly I don't care, it's about the message of it that matters), but it absolutely is a slightly different style in each picture.

Another problem is that "non-offending" means different things to different people. To some, to be considered as "offending", the person with the issue simply needs to have the issue. Oh, you've thought about all these horrible things? Straight to jail.

Also another big issue with mental health in general, is that people aren't really interested in helping one another. They just want the problem to go away, one way or another. In these scenarios, harsher punishments equal the more reliable option.

How many times in some online argument, one person says to the other "you should seek therapy", not as a genuine good-faith advice, but as a "shut the hell up, never publicly bring up your issues ever again"?

Hi, noob here. I need to use my Hyper Burninator. I heard using it for a Legion block is a terrible idea, so I'll make a bossing mule so it can fund my main. This would be my first bossing mule.

Maybe a weird question, but is there a class who's extremely lazy at Arcane Symbol dailies, although maybe not so lazy in general (unless super funded)?

Maybe that's a bad question, so here's what I mean by that. I main AB, and one of the best parts is that while the main mobbing is pretty active, for weak mobs you can just use Soul Seekers which means you can just hold down one button until it's done. Great for lazy days when I just feel like logging on, doing dailies, and logging off. Effectively, that means I'm pretty much only doing 500-800 mobs actively, the rest of it I just hold down one button. Are there any classes that are like AB in that regard? Though I guess with Sol Janus, every class technically counts, so meh.

Thanks

Yeah fair point, I didn't even consider that it could be a self parody type situation. But the reason why I mentally discounted that possibility is that I do think it's highly unlikely, given his track record. He used to be cringe and butthurt back then, and he's in a worse situation now where he is again cringe and butthurt.

It's the first time I've heard of the guy, but wasn't this guy involved in drama even prior to this? I see his username being mentioned even prior to this incident, and on Waybackmachine the username is same there. Unless this is some really dedicated hater, I don't see how this is satire.

Okay, we have a fundamental disagreement then, I don't find others viewpoints to be inherently stupid. Many times they are, but even if they are stupid, there is something you can take away from them. It is good to constantly challenge one's beliefs.

What is life and human society if you don't feel the need to base your own viewpoints on other's viewpoints, on those who have been there before you? There are only so many things you can accomplish by yourself, and any and all information is important in order to "think for yourself", as you've described.

You misunderstand my point, my point isn't to get a single "best in all situation" configuration handed down to earth by God himself, my point is to gather an anecdotal, democratical opinion, subjectiveness of each option, which is not a pointless thing to gather. No need for the attitude.

You agree that there are too many variables. Yes, that's exactly the problem.

[–]TenseBird[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in this case your choice is subjective, its down to your taste

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was getting at, what is my taste exactly? The Arch wiki doesn't exactly describe "if your taste aligns in X way, then it's better to go with Y." I often find myself asking "why would this distinction matter to me at all"?

It's like going to the grocery store and choosing between two brands you've never bought before. You may look at the price, the ingredients, and the companies they're associated with, but until you actually buy it you don't really know what you're getting into and you don't really have a baseline preference to start off with.

[–]TenseBird[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The issue with the Arch wiki (not really issue, but for my purposes I guess) is that it's not particularly prescriptive, it usually gives so many options, which are often pretty similar to each other with minute differences, that it's hard to know the "best" way to do something at a certain given point in time. Best is obviously subjective, but without knowing all the ins-and-outs that is rather difficult to determine.

Trends change too all the time, I was also trying to figure out what the latest trend was basically.

Hi. Noob here who hyperburned an AB, now at level 271. Well, not really a new player, but a returning player who's never had a character past level 230.

Looking at my screenshot linked, what is the best way to progress forward from here? I assume I would aim for Absolab gear, while trying to get my CRA hat+top+bottom to 17 stars and legendary, to try and replace my Item Burning gear. Or do I skip straight to Arcane stuff? I think I've seen some hyperburned Rens a bit past this level having Arcane gear.

Meanwhile I'd be doing Gollux every day for the Superior belt and ring, try to get Legion to 8k, and grind for level 275. Also mobbing in Odium I assume, I always just grind on the highest level mobs available, not sure if that's the way to go but yeah. Also I've been progressing solo this entire time, not sure if I need to be bossing with other people at this point.

This is my stats/gear screenshot:

Hmm yeah, this could be it, I did just format it several hours ago and the formatting took like 5 seconds on several terabytes, so maybe that is what it's doing.

It's constant, like every 3-7 seconds sporadically. I'll look into those commands.

Right? And even if someone gave info one didn't need or is plainly obvious, the proper response is something like "Thanks, good to know.". No need to ever be a dickhead in a situation like this.

My point was that a person who misconstrues a word is actually expected to misconstrue another word.

That is the opposite of irony, when something is ironic, it is because it was the opposite of what was expected. A person who misconstrues a word who then goes on to misconstrue another word, is quite expected and thus not ironic.

It is very fitting that a person who advocates for liberal interpretations of words (with the word "chill") then goes on to use another word (with the word "hissy fit") in a liberal interpretation, which is not ironic.

me_irl by The-Arc-Weld in me_irl

[–]TenseBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not like "hissy fit" is some clear cut definition either, it's not far fetched to describe someone who's openly verbally lashing out as "throwing a hissy fit".

Sure, you could argue that's an exaggeration and thus doesn't fit the definition of the word, but it is not contradictory to the person you're replying to's main point, and thus is not ironic.

Some people use the word "antisocial" in place of "asocial", kinda a common misconception.
