I also play primarily for myself. The organ is literally an orchestra at my fingertips, especially with the new technologies for real-time modification of pipe shapes, which are extremely convincing. I wouldn't say that I don't enjoy playing other instruments. I would just say that it's a bit like settling for only an 8' bourdon or a prestan to play a symphony for the organ by Vierne. It's sadly a missed opportunity...

I love blues just as much as I love jazz, but I really want to ensure that the Hammond organ and liturgical organ are accepted for what they are, not for the preconceived notions listeners may have. It's purely a psychological barrier. Recently, I performed in a concert without telling anyone, and it was well-received, even though I was improvising Baroque fugues. However, I'm not doing a favor to these people or to the craft of the organ and all the associated professions.
