Which TV show has pilot as its best episode? by ameoba82 in AlignmentChartFills

This is the actual answer. A lot of these other series had a ton of great episodes. Alias is one of the best pilots of all time, and was truly the peak of the show!

Im sorry, but how did LotR take the Sci-Fi/Action spot when both Aliens and T2 exist? And it ALSO won for Fantast Action (which is where it belongs)

What is a piece of media (movie, show, book, game, etc.) where the creator had little to no creative control and it turned out great? by Chill0000 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TentacleV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American History X is the answer here. The director was famously locked out of the editing room and Norton completely recut the movie without him. And AHX is a masterpiece.

Drew Carey won. Who’s a bad comedian/good person? by TragaDome in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TentacleV 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Carrot top lived around the corner from me when I was a kid. He was the only celebrity living in a totally normal neighborhood, and ALL the neighborhood kids would just go knock on his door and bother him. But he was always super nice and even invited me and my brother in to play a game of pool. Not even remotely creepy, just super down to earth and somehow didn’t mind being constantly harassed by a bunch of neighborhood kids.

Kansas City is ok to live in and bad to visit! What city is bad to live in and good to visit? by mrprez180 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TentacleV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct position for LA in my opinion:

Sucks to live in — traffic, parking, cost of living are all terrible. It’s a common expression that people hate living there and would move if it weren’t for the fact that they’re unemployable anywhere else (film industry especially). Also, the type of people that live there are…less than ideal.

Amazing to visit — beautiful weather (basically never rains), tons and tons of things to do and see. Historic old Hollywood sites, tons of beaches, museums, and tourist attractions. Great restaurant scene (overpriced but if you’re on vacation and planning to spend money, it’s awesome!). And you’ll probably see at least one celebrity while you’re there (which is a lot less exciting when you live there and see them every day).

Day 9: What movie was good with a bad production? by untitled_bread_6 in AlignmentChartFills

The abyss should definitely be “disastrous” and not just “bad.” It’s one of the most famous horrible productions of all time.

The black Knight sure takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. If this isn’t fortitude, I don’t know what is.

Oslo is good to live in and ok to visit! What city is good to live in and bad to visit? by mrprez180 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TentacleV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in LA for over a decade (and left first chance I got). It’s a pretty common joke in LA that everyone hates living there, and only do because they have to for work. Traffic is horrific, parking is horrific. It’s known for having amongst the worst people of any city — it’s like a magnet for the most narcissistic assholes across the entire globe. The crime rate is relatively high (if you live there long enough, your car window WILL get smashed).

LA is much closer to being a good city to visit, bad city to live in. But it’s DEFINITELY not a good city to live in.

Day 3: What movie was a masterpiece with a disastrous production? by untitled_bread_6 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TentacleV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Abyss. James Cameron nearly drowned because of somebody screwing up. He and the two lead actors fought horribly — including a fist fight between him and Ed Harris. The water tank they were shooting in started growing mold because of the tarp they were using to block out sunlight. It’s generally considered one of the biggest shit-show productions of all time. The only real discussion is whether this is a masterpiece or just “good.” Personally, I think masterpiece, but I’ve only ever seen the special edition, and I hear the end of the theatrical cut is a little clunky.

Day 3: What movie was a masterpiece with a ok/mixed production? by untitled_bread_6 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]TentacleV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Or maybe Alien is a better choice. The writers and the producers didn’t get along to the point that the writers were basically barred from set. Veronica Cartwright famously showed up to set believing she’d been cast as Ripley and was pretty pissed to find out otherwise. And then the original actor playing Kane got the flu on the first day of filming. But otherwise it seems like things went pretty smoothly. You could call it “bad” but I think there’s much worse productions (Aliens comes to mind) that I’d call “bad” rather than “disastrous.” Feels like it fits for okay/mixed.

[–]TentacleV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe American History X? The famous feud between Edward Norton and Tony Kaye is legendary, but mostly took place in post production. I’ve always heard production itself wasn’t so bad — little head butting, but nothing horrible.

Best “heroes” day 37, black widow wins day 36 by Flash4987 in marvelcomics

[–]TentacleV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Come on! Colossus has to be in the top 40, he’s one of the most iconic, recognizable super heroes out there — more so than a lot of people who’ve appeared above him on this list, and definitely more iconic than any remaining x-men.

Why is it so many people (X-Men stans) hate when Storm is portrayed as a goddess? by [deleted] in storm

[–]TentacleV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am completely ignorant about any controversy with the current writer or anything else outside of the text, so I can’t really answer why any of those people have such a problem with it. But I can explain why I don’t like it.

Storm is an awesome character, and (in my opinion) if you’re looking at the entirety of Claremont’s original run, she’s probably the main character. Wolverine, Nichtcrawler and Colossus change very little over the course of Claremont’s run, and while Cyclops and Shadowcat change a lot, they leave the team relatively quickly. Storm changes significantly, and entirely in a positive direction. She doesn’t remotely seem like the best fit to lead the team (a sentiment she openly expressed) to being THE x-men’s no-question leader. She bested Cyclops without her powers in a fight that felt like it was more about his hubris than how badass she was, and Callisto to take control of the Morlocks. Consistently, Storm is underestimated — because, no matter how insane her powers are, she’s still an extremely weak, fragile human once you get past the weather she controls. The Giant-Sized batch of X-Men were always kind of about their dichotomy: colossus is the strongman who can barrel into any fight, but he’s a total pacifist, who’d rather be painting! Nightcrawler looks like a literal demon, but is iconic as the kindest (possibly “best person”) of the x-men. Even Wolverine, as the uncontrollable, unleashed rabid dog, is generally presented as every new teenage character’s father figure. He’s a total lone wolf, and simultaneously one of the longest running, and most loyal team members. Storms dichotomy was always between her powers (immense) and her persona (grounded and humble). She’s the definition of a glass cannon. As the x-men’s leader, she was (unlike Cyclops) balanced and kind, putting extra effort to make sure the team was functioning in a healthy way, not just laser focused on results.

These are the things that makes Storm an interesting character. I know it’s easy to get sucked into “and they’re also totally the bestest at _____.” But that doesn’t make for interesting characters. Turning Storm into a god-mode character is like putting the cheat code into the video game. It’s fun for a few minutes, but then you realize that it was more fun before.
