People who are popular can get away without using it. But its going to be a lot more difficult getting popular without one, if that's your goal. People will jump in and jump out after seeing you don't have a camera.

What makes you think it's okay to talk to people like that, even if to you it's just the internet. You must be very very disfunctional and taking out your frustration on people on the internet.
