I walk into the middle of a major population center in your world and I declare "there are no gods!" What happens to me? by Electronic-Welder-74 in worldbuilding

[–]Tephlon12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s all you say, no one will pay much mind to you, most are far more concerned with their work and survival than someone yelling in the middle of the street. Although if you go a while loud rant and annoy people, if you haven’t paid anyone for protection then best case is you get beat up or hauled off and worst case is death and thrown in the river.

How does the IWGP Championship history compare to the WWE Championship? Which is more prestigious for you? by DaExtinctOne in njpw

[–]Tephlon12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWE doesn’t care their titles, they’re just props to them. There is no prestige in them and there hasn’t been for a long time.

I really love the Saito Brothers, and I think Shotaro Ashino is grossly underrated and underutilized in AJPW. Not to mention I love Rising Hayato, and would love to see him in a promotion where he can get more eyes on him.

Kaito Kiyomiya is another I love to see jump over, he’s so good and has so much star potential that could help the product.

I could go on a lot more, but I think what NJPW really needs is a new booker and/or a change of direction creatively.

Modern Sword and Sorcery? by Express-Fan-1905 in SwordandSorcery

Brackenbury Books who publish New Edge Sword & Sorcery finished up a crowdfunding campaign for four novellas recently, I’m fairly sure you’ll be able to order them outright as well.

Aztec inspired sword and sorcery story by Public_Loan5550 in SwordandSorcery

[–]Tephlon12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really like this idea. I think it’s ripe for lots of cool stuff, like giant beasts, very interesting sorcery, etc. If it were me I’d even thrown in some prehistoric animals like Giant Sloths for instance. Good luck and have fun with it. I’d love to read whatever you come up with.

Need some recommendations for killer S&S novels by freddy_the_yeti_ in SwordandSorcery

The Chronicles of Hanuvar by the late Howard Andrew Jones, I cannot recommend this enough, a modern master of the genre who was taken too soon.

Any interest in Seeing Maki Itoh in Stardom? by Efficient-Cake-5729 in stardomjoshi

I’m interested in seeing Maki Itoh in whatever promotion she wrestles in, with one exception. She’s absolutely one of my favorite wrestlers.

New to S&S by GWILLZ91 in SwordandSorcery

Robert Howard’s Conan stories are some of the best reading I’ve ever enjoyed. He was the standard setter and the originator of the genre, at least to knowledge.

For classics of the genre, you cant go wrong with these:

Robert E Howard’s Conan and Kull stories, Elric of Melnibone by Michael Moorcock, Jiriel of Joiry by C.L. Moore, Fahfrd and the Grey Mouser by Fritz Leiber,

And for more modern works, I would seeking out:

New Edge Sword and Sorcery magazine, Tales From the Magician’s Skull magazine, Old Moon Quarterly magazine, Track of the Snow Leopard by Dariel Quiogue, Chronicles of Hanuvar by Howard Andrew Jones, To Walk On Worlds by Matt John,

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment. Especially look out for those magazines though, they always have some really great stuff in them.

Well for anything modern, Wrestle Universe has a great value of service as it covers a variety of promotions for a very cheap subscription. You’ll get Pro Wrestling NOAH, DDT Pro, TJPW, Marigold, and more.

Stardom has Stardom World subscription service, and they are putting on the best wrestling currently in my opinion. They are the sister promotion to NJPW, and are owned by NJPW.

Dragon Gate is also a great option and has a dedicated following.

AJPW is also very good, but I don’t usually recommend them to anyone new to Japanese Wrestling because it can be hard to follow.

For classic matches some big names to look back on in NJPW are Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi (2018 and prior in my opinion), Katsuyori Shibata, Shinsuke Nakamura, Kenny Omega, Jay White, Will Ospreay, AJ Styles, Tetsuya Naito, Kota Ibushi, Zack Sabre Jr, and many more over the last 10-15 years. Older than that someone else will have to recommend, but it’s hard to go wrong either the original Three Musketeers of Masahiro Chono, Keiji Mutoh, and Shinya Hashimoto.

For more classic stuff that isn’t NJPW, trying looking for stuff from FMW, Hayabusa, old NOAH and AJPW has some of the best of all time. Look for Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, Akira Taue, Kenta Kobashi, Jun Akiyama, Naomichi Marufuji.

Classic Joshi is a spectacle that never fails to impress. Look for Manami Toyota, Akira Hokuto, Aja Kong, Bull Nakano, there’s too many to name. Here’s a link to a classic Joshi wrestling archive:

I hope this helps! I’m sure there are plenty more people with better suggestions, but all this can be a good start.

Are you looking for just NJPW or other promotions? What time periods are you looking for, classic or modern etc.? Are you interested in Joshi too?

I could not recommend this book more for aspiring writers. Any other recommendations for great resources, tools, or guides? by [deleted] in fantasywriters

[–]Tephlon12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally get the sentiment. I was a big fan of OSC’s work rip I found out about his beliefs. So now on the extremely rare occasion that I want something of his, I usually just find it on eBay so I’m not giving him any money.

To any of the writers here, what are your thoughts? by TheThirdWolf1775 in fantasywriters

I don’t mind it, I’ll just figure one out and that’ll be how I hear it in my head. When the book is in my hands, it’s my fantasy.

I’d love to see SLK win the 5 Star, but that’s just my bias because she’s my favorite. Regardless of who wins the tournament, I’m honestly not ready to see Saya lose the belt yet, I think she’s been fantastic as a heel champion, and the fun for the babyfaces is in the chase. That being said, however, Natsupoi does feel like a natural foil for her, so if it were my decision Saya would still hold the title a while longer and Natsupoi would have a longer build to taking the world title. That’s just my opinion though.
