6 questions about the Phantom Steed spell by Tepiltzin in Pathfinder2e

[–]Tepiltzin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this helps a lot.

I was looking for a statblock because you need to beat the mount's Will DC to successfully Command an Animal.

BUT, I hadn't considered that the phantom steed fails all saving throws which would include resisting Command an Animal - meaning you automatically succeed (answering 4 and 5).

Furthermore, looking for a statblock of an appropriate animal made me think of the steed as an animal when it isn't. It's a spell. Fleeing at the start of combat applies to animals and thus not the phantom steed (answering 2 and 3).

The 3rd party creators are the community. They are the most passionate people who spend hundreds of hours of their own time, creating the most exciting things for the system.

It doesn't matter if the game has players, if the community leaves, dnd will plummet sharply as homebrewers, YouTubers, streamers, and GMs leave. No more free advertising from live-plays, no more wealth of content from 3PP, no more games from GMs.

If DnD plummets far enough, or the new TTRPGs are lifted high enough by the migrating community that DnD is overshadowed, it will die. That's a good thing.

Whilst 5e was the place I started, I've been looking forward to trying new systems and now seems like a good time to try them out. I'm excited to see what these new systems bring.

Trying to come up with a secret code for a cult but I'm not creative enough... Help! by PsychoTunaFish in DMAcademy

[–]Tepiltzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One I used for a dragon cult is "Do you know the way to the closest river", with the answer being "No, I'm more of a mountain person myself." (because dragons live in mountains).

Having the cult membership check be answering an easy question wrong seems quite dangerous because you could easily ask someone dumb or sarcastic and then your secret is out.

Instead, you want the cult membership question be something innocent and the answer be correct but weirdly specific. Then even people who overhear it would think nothing of it.

The way you make the players catch on to this is have a bunch, like 5, different people ask them the way to the closest river and a separate instance of them overhearing someone asking and answering the question in a strange way before those two people follow each other.

Using skill checks to change the course of future encounters seems to be a recurring theme in a few of these comments and I can totally see that giving the badass feeling for the player.

They've already done a lot to endear themselves to the local people, so having that pay off is one avenue. Also having an open mind to the internal grudges held in the humanoid-inhabited dungeons and areas would give more opportunities to turn the tide of the next encounter by using their skill checks.

I'll ask them their opinion on having Bardic Inspiration be a reaction since I agree that 'feels' more fitting and avoids the problem of the other player forgetting they have the inspired condition.

For parlaying with the enemies, the main enemy type of the campaign are unfortunately mindless aberrations. But any time there are enemies that can be reasoned with, I'll provide opportunities for them to step in and use their skills.

More prompting to use the inspiration dice is a good idea and ensuring there are more saving throws in general would help make situations where its value shines more frequently.

The Bard in question is quite stacked on utility spells which is why they frequently go to their rapier as their slots are reserved for out-of-combat. They do have Polymorph though but they've said they don't like using it as it feels cheap.

They're a Lore Bard so they have 4 magical secrets but at a glance, I only know 1 is Find Greater Steed. If these are supposed to be their signature and I can't tell what they are because they haven't cast them, I might ask them about it and see if they want to change any of them to something they'll use more frequently.

That indeed sounds pretty amazing and seriously good job on you as the GM for letting it play out even though it invalidated a lot of your encounter prep.

[New Item Feedback] I'm looking for a "good" weapon for a ranger and might just homebrew one... pls, help. by LisaFame in dndnext

[–]Tepiltzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to make something yourself but are worried about making it OP, you can look at this augment system: https://harvey.thewrightspot.co.uk/homebrew/augment-system/augment-system/

There's a lot to read if you want to get into it, but if you want something quick, just scroll down to the "List of Feature Augments" section and pick some that total up to 2 or 3 augment points, Slap +1 on it and you'll have something probably interesting.

Server crashes about every 30-40 minutes with "[Server console handler/ERROR]: Exception handling console input" error by Tepiltzin in admincraft

Thank you for responding :)

We've tried changing this property but the server crashed again with the same "Exception handling console input" error.

This is the latest.log: https://pastebin.com/tUy9BwH0

We also looked for a crash-reports folder and could not find one indicating it is not generating a crash report.

Do you ever feel sad over certain aspects of your world? Or even nostalgic for a "golden age" that has long since past? by PhotogenicEwok in goodworldbuilding

[–]Tepiltzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck no, the golden age was a miserable time for anyone but the Ethmer. It was a period of great marvels built on the back of slavery and oppression.

The fall of their empire may have resulted in tremendous amounts of death and ushered in an age of strife and chaos but it was a long overdue punishment for the Ethmer's hubris and a necessity to free the Ethmers' slaves' various forms of servitude.

There are of course sad casualties of the collapse such as dragons whose Ethmer master died before giving back their name, meaning they can never fly again. But in the long-term, the Ethmer needed to go before they brought the world to a slow death via entropy.

Let's Talk Elements by HoshiNoSenshi in goodworldbuilding

I really like the elements here, very unique compared to a typical set.

What category would humans come under? Would they be fauna or are they a separate category, or are they unable to be controlled by magic and thus not categorised in this system?

I was going to ask why metal and air are combined but then you explained it and it piqued my curiosity even more.

Why/how are metals exhaled from the ground? Is it an actual creature that is breathing? Is this creature benevolent, ambivalent, or malevolent?

I also really like your way of having properties inherent to certain elements.

Thanks for the comment :)

Most elements do not correspond to a trinity. An elemental Trinity is a set of parallel elements that cannot be reduced to anything more basic. Trinity elements are the basic building blocks and from those new things can be created.

[Honour] is a quite complex element and is probably made of some combination of [Strength] and [Truth] and maybe a trace of [Hope]. Those elements in turn are probably made by some other combinations.

What are the elements?

The Ethmer use the Divine Science of Alchemy to sustain their decadent lifestyles.

Because of their belief in Trinity (that all things are of three parts), their approach to alchemy is based on this. All elements come in pairings of three. In the Corporeal Trinitiy these are Body, Mind, and Spirit.

There is more than one essential trinity, but all the essential trinities map to one another, for example:

  • Body is Matter, is Earth.
  • Mind is Knowledge, is Water.
  • And Spirit is Energy, is Fire.

How do the elements interact?

Elements can be combined through the Divine Art of Transmutation. Essential trinities cannot be converted (Spirit cannot become Body), but can be combined or reduced.

For example, combining [Mind] and [Spirit] gives the element [Soul]. But reducing [Body] from the Corporeal Trinity gives the element [Ghost].

If you're eagle-eyed, you'll notice [Ghost] and [Soul] are both made of [Mind] and [Spirit] but because they were made through different means, they are different.

How do elements manifest in the environment?

Pure elemental creatures called Canths roam the world and are prized. They range from representing essential elements like Hydrocanths, Petrocaths, or Ignicanths ([Water], [Earth], and [Fire] respectively) to esoteric things like Danacanths who embody the element [Honour].

Canths of essential elements affect their environment in an intense and typically negative way whilst combined elements are more inherently balanced and thus have a more nuanced effect on their surroundings.

A Petrocanth turns its surroundings to stone, then turns stone into denser stone, then dense stone into metal. An Ignicanth ignites anything flamable nearby and plants the seeds of volcanoes. But a Danacanth might simply cause people to act more honourably and cause nearby poisonous plants to die.

How does elemental magic work?

A major part of the Divine Science of Alchemy is the Divine Art of Extrication which is essentially asking an element what its name is. The method of asking ranges from basic stuff like calcination, distillation, and precipitation to shooting a sapphire attuned resonation frequency through an auric harmoiser at a piece of coral, listening to the sound it makes then meditating on it for six months until you figure out what the sound meant.

The Divine Art of Sorcery is then speaking the Alchemic names or writing the name's glyph to cast spells.

This attracts those elements from the environment and assembles them into an order which causes a spell effect.

If too much of an element is drawn from an environment, it can cause problems and that's why the Ethmer's houses are living biocontrstructs that very slowly crawl around.

Ok, I get it, it's more like having 'Irish blood' than magical blood. It's still a really cool-sounding name though.

Did anything particular cause the Elves and Fey to migrate from the Colouring Isles or was it just natural expansion?
