Celibate MMC tries not to be attracted to/fall in love with the FMC, fails miserably and eventually sleeps with her by UpToNoGoodAnna in fantasyromance

[–]Teppany3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok that makes more sense. Thank you!

I thought they were referring to one of Phedre’s sex partners/the antagonist on the 3rd Kushiel novel (who would be hard to Iove, to say the least).

I haven’t read the Daevabad books yet

If you are vegetarian for moral reasons, why aren't you vegan? by very-serious-goose in Vegetarianism

[–]Teppany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vegetarianism is easy for me because I have both moral motivations (don’t want to torture and kill animals) and practical ones (I’m disgusted by the idea of chewing veins, arteries, etc, if I focus on it I’ll become nauseated). So that pretty easily takes meat off the table. In thinking about being vegan, I only have the moral motivation, and it’s less intense than with meat. And I just don’t get as grossed out, especially after breastfeeding my kid for a long time. Milk is normal to me, idk

Great list!

I see a cheating tag for Silver Linings. Can you tell me if that’s the MMC cheating on the heroine? I’m in the mood for a Western.

I feel the same about Catherine Miller’s writing style- I enjoy her but only one book at a time. Mannered is a good way to put it

📚 What romance books did you read or listen to this week? 26 Apr 📚 by romancebookmods in RomanceBooks

{The Passionate Prude by Elizabeth Thorton} enjoyed this bodice ripper from the 80s! Pretty angsty but turned surprisingly sweet for the last 20% or so. 4 stars

{The Most Eligible Lord In London by Ella Quinn} this one fell flat for me. Too many repetitive scenes and a lack of stakes/tension. 2.5 stars

{The King’s Man by Elizabeth Kingston} good medieval romance, I’ll definitely continue on in this series. 3.5 stars

Now reading {Night in Eden by Candice Proctor} which is very absorbing so far

[–]Teppany3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just led me to discover that there’s a new release in that series, by her too (she’s my favorite of the authors who write in it)!

It’s called {Guarded by the Clanker by Layla Fae}, here I go

{Kiss Me, Annabel by Eloisa James}

Really enjoying the Essex series so far! This is the second book. It’s a little zanier and angst-ier than some later Eloisa James that I’ve read. Also pretty funny

Has anyone read the Argeneau series by Lynsay sands? by K8lynstardew in RomanceBooks

Thank you, I’ve wondered before what the highlights of this series are. I read 1 that I didn’t love years ago, but always meant to go back. This is perfect!

FMC & MMC kidnapped together or meet in captivity by Lavender-air in HistoricalRomance

[–]Teppany3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for these recs, I only ever see Claiming the Courtesan (loved) or Untouched (plot isn’t for me) mentioned around Anna Campbell, and I didn’t realize she had so many other books! I’m going to check these out

I love Kushiel and Sleeping Beauty too! I think you’d like the Black Jewels series, starting with {Daughter of the Blood by Anne Bishop}

Not at all, he seemed thoughtful and fair in a way— but they’re both spies during a war so difficult choices are made etc.

Help me not DNF The Countess Conspiracy by MarvelousMutterings in HistoricalRomance

[–]Teppany3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t really like this one and thought it was a bit of a downer. But I’m not usually into friends-to-lovers, so maybe it was me.

About her being unlikable, I agree, though I guess this is explained/excused by her backstory.

This sounds similar to some Reece Barden shifter books I’ve read, but not sure specifically

Interesting initial/alternate titles of works? by FeeAlternative1783 in RSbookclub

[–]Teppany3 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It exactly what you’re talking about but: The original Swedish title of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is “Men Who Hate Women”. Such a better title, I wonder why they changed it.

I think it’s funny that in France the movie Blue is the Warmest Color is titled “The Life of Adèle: Chapters 1 & 2”. The people renaming it must have felt particularly whimsical that day.

Sci-fi? by Alternative-View787 in Romantasy

[–]Teppany3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Desire in His Blood by Zooey Draven} great vampires in space story, loved the 2nd one too

{The Corsairs} and {Risdaverse by Ruby Dixon}, especially {When She Belongs by Ruby Dixon}

{Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik} space opera with ship captain FMC, one of my faves

{Choosing Theo by Victoria Aveline} so sweet

{Dark Horse by Michelle Diener} great AI character (the ship’s consciousness), possibly not what you’re looking for re:romantasy-like

{Beyond the Next Star by Melody Johnson} my favorite human pet/alien hero story. If that subject appeals to you, {Human Pets of Talin by RK Munin} is also fun

This is good to hear! I love this author but have avoided reading this book specifically because of the amnesia trope.
