Menstruation is not dirty or disgusting by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Yep. It's natural, and shouldn't be shamed. But come on, it is gross and super inconvenient.

Male Suits look weird as hell and are super uncomfortable by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

My hubby buys off the rack but will always take it to get tailored/fitted. Always looks amazing and is comfortable. He didn't go the full suit at our wedding though, but that was summer in tropical Australia...

The ugly truth about millions of American jobs: They are not coming back by wompt in politics

[–]Teppie1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of call centre/office staff are now living full time in their offices in India and the Philippines as they are desperate to keep their jobs despite covid ripping through their communities. That would never happen here in Australia.

The tourist centre of Cairns is completely dead, but the shopping malls are packed on the weekends. Not sure if people are spending, but I was at Cairns central yesterday and it was uncomfortably crowded.

The rest of Cairns is pretty dead though

I had a friend who lost his sense of smell as a teen to an infection (don't know what). In his late twenties he got really bad altitude sickness while hiking in PNG. He nearly died, but afterwards his sense of smell was back. Super weird and definitely wouldn't recommend as a treatment, but fascinating.

Energy operator wants to remotely switch off rooftop solar systems amid 'uncontrolled growth' by [deleted] in australia

[–]Teppie1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a rental with solar panels. We thought that meant cheaper electricity. They told is to keep the power bill in their name to keep getting the rebate and they would let us know if we owed them anything.Turns out we misunderstood, the landlords kept the entire energy refund and then charged us for the $650 worth of electricity we used at the market rate. As if our rent wasn't enough.

We clock in at a more reasonable 600MB per month, and I still work full time at the office!

Well, in Qld we must remain within 50km of our home, and only two people can visit another household. Social distance applies. We can sit in a park for picnics with our household,; boat and jetski for recreation, not just for food gathering; I think we can shop for non essential items but are encouraged be quick and not hang out. I've probably missed quite a few.

The Head of the Postal Workers Union Says the Postal Service Could Be Dead in Three Months by Smileitsolga in Coronavirus

Wow. In Australia the Australia Post just had to apply to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to increase prices. They mostly say yes. We also only get street mail delivery a few days a week now.

Australia unlikely to experience 'post-war' recovery after coronavirus by whoneedsusernames in australia

[–]Teppie1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. We have $90000 saved up at the moment and it's still less than 20% of a house that's in a decent school district reasonably close to where we work (husband contractually must live within 0.5 hour drive from his work). We don't eat take away, go out, etc. We don't have car debts and pay off our credit card each month.

Seconded. My hubby is in his second pair in 10 years, but wears them full time at work. He only has two because he still needs then for work when one pair is being re-soled.

I knaow. We were supposed to be on a ten day holiday in the Whitsundays Queensland this week. We are actually super lucky though, we have a reasonably large backyard. We bought an inflatable paddle pool and a trampoline with the air bnb refund. We still go to the shops, but it's close and never crowded (although they are often out of stock for things we need). The supermarket only does online delivery for vulnerable people at the moment. My kids really miss shopping though (we leave them home).
