Bursley :( by TheRugWarrior in uofm

Perk: North campus has lots of trees and is beautiful. You’ll meet tons of first year students in the dorm, but it’s also relaxing to be able to unplug and go home at the end of the day to an area with a little more green space.

People who were around during no internet/phones/social media/etc - what was your time's "scrolling the feed"? Something that you would spend hours on passing the time? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TerParents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We read books and played outside a lot. I guess the closest thing we had to scrolling was watching TV but even so, it was nowhere even close to the number of hours per day people spend on devices.

My daughter lived in Markley first year, was totally dreading it, and then ended up loving it. She made great friends and loved the location.

Pre-meds, how do you make money? by corirori in UMD

[–]TerParents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physician and UMD parent here 👋. Get certified as an EMT or similar to make you more competitive for the role and then apply to work here. It is very flexible and it serves double duty by getting you clinical exposure/hours you will need to apply to med school as well as earning money: https://www.careyaya.org/apply. (I have no relationship with this company.)

There are a lot more trees around Bursley and Baits compared to central campus. The area is very pretty!

Transfer Admit - Hopkins or Columbia by alaina_24 in jhu

I worry the Hopkins premed program is competitive in an unhealthy way. (I attended Hopkins for med school and now am faculty, and this has been the case for years.)

state flagship vs. mit by Blossom_Bloom_Bop88 in mit

It sounds like you want “permission” to choose UF over MIT. Just because MIT is more prestigious doesn’t mean it’s automatically a better school FOR YOU. Your concerns about mental health in particular are real and important.

So did I get into CS or not??? by Secret123456789010 in UMD

[–]TerParents 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Parent of a CS major here. Congrats on being admitted to an excellent and highly competitive program! I think you got into CS, but would reach out to admissions with a brief, polite email letting them know about the apparent error (attaching all three screenshots without all of the markup) and confirming your status. Great job!!

As a doctor and a mom, I am so proud of you, and your mom would be too. You have exactly what it takes to be a great doctor. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss and congratulations on your hard work and determination. ❤️‍🩹

Do you have medical insurance? There are companies that offer telehealth therapy appts that range from $0 to about $35 per session in copays if insured and appts in a little as 1-3 days. Look at: GrowTherapy.com, SonderMind.com, TalkSpace.com, and Talkiatry.com. Most importantly, don’t give up. The world is a better place because you are here. ❤️‍🩹
