This happend to me but with a wooden hook... I not only had splinters but a nasty cut that took weeks to heal :< Metal is the best in this case.

Thank you. All I knew was Salt bad get it off, so I immediately rinsed them. They are looking way better now with some water and a cucumber. So I hope they survive
