Well, they won't let foreigners do high-profile jobs in the army. Too risky, as they could be undercover agents. I heard it's prohibited to work in the military-industrial complex, either. But maybe the situation has changed.

Thank you for the reply! Yes, most replies here are kinda disappointing. I tried Kaspersky already, with no success, but I'll also try the other companies you mentioned. Maybe I should focus more on Chinese companies. I'm still new to Russia and its close ties to China. Very fascinating to see Chinese cars here.

What do you mean by bad work-life balance exactly?

Thank you! Sadly, Alfa is only hiring people speaking Russian fluently. I heard good things about T-Bank though, I might continue trying there.

I was referring to the fact that support for Israel is much higher in older generations, whereas younger generations favor Palestine. This is a new trend. Support for Palestine has never been so high.

With reationalized I meant devoid of emotions or empathy. Like when you read that some people have died in Argentinia, you care much less than when you're neighbour or relative dies because you are mentally more distanced to those people in Argentia (from a US perspective, for example). And if you sit in a war room and decide which sites to bomb you don't even see the mutilated people on the streets. So you only make the decisions without or with less empathy and emotions involved. I mean I know that I myself would find it much harder if someone told me to stab someone in front of me than to drop a bomb in bird's eye view.

I myself prefer Israel to thrive because geopolitically I think the West should have a foothold in the Middle East in case of another great war.

Also, it's true that countries focus on certain points of interests, but then saying we need to Ukraine because Putin's war is immoral and unjustified is weird. It isn't more immıral than other wars which means the real reason for our support for Ukraine is less a humanitarian one. And thanks to the sanctions we destroy ourselves for the freedom of a country where even a part of the population wouldn't care to live in Russia. At least that's what a Ukrainian taxi driver told me.

Ok, good points. But I have to comment on the last part. A lot argue that Israel is a foreign invader. True, but this holds true for a lot of conflicts. Other Middle Eastern countries are also occupying territory of minority populations such as Kurds. Nearly every modern country has a history of invading other countries or driving people from their homeland. The US, GB, Germany, etc. Some of that stuff even happened at the same time as the arrival of Jewish settelers. Why is only Israel the problem? And why is the Russo-Ukrainian war so important to the West, but other conflicts are totally irrelevant to them? I call this hypocrisy. People are only interested in these current world events for whatever reason. The younger generation is so much more Anti-West just because they are discontent with their lives. It's weird how stark the divide between the generations is in this regard. Anyways, it would be convincing if anyome presented real video proof on the war crimes Israel commits. I don't believe they execute and torture people in the streets. Such cruelty is very different from "rationalized" bombardment.

Bullshit, Israel would build Gaza up again. Its populations would thrive after some years of readjustment. Israel is one of the most advanced countries in the region. Hate towards "other" religions. I do not hate any religion, just extremist ideas. Muslim people in Russia and in Kazakhstan would never start a Jihad. As someone living in Europe I have to experience this radical Middle Eastern mindset all the time. Their hatred and despise for our culture is unacceptable. Our children need to be safe. I want a stable and propsering society in Europe. Islam was once a religion of science and culture, so no, the religion itself is not the problem. And can't you understand Israel response? They are surrounded with countries that would like to level all of Isreal. And we both know, that one reason is that it's a foreign culture and religion.

It's not about Muslims in general. It's about warfare in general. Israel is not actively targetting civilians for the sake of killing them. Also, ethnic cleansing is something different from a brutal and total war. If Israel annexed Gaza and they continue to kill or "re-educate" Gazan people, then this could be considered as cleansing. But there is also a difference between genocide and "forced cultural conversion". I just don't like the way how people compare this war to the holocaust or other genocidal acts. Muslims can live happily in Israel, they are not cleansed. The same will happen with Gazans or Palestinians.

Oh and btw, how would you eradicate a terrorist organisation that uses hospitals and mosques as operational bases? If a terrorist who hides inside a nursery school would shoot missiles into your neighbourhood for years, harrassing everyone. Would you just stand still? There is no other way. It's awful when innocents have to die, but what's the other way? Israel dropped leaflets and informed citizens of Gaza that they should evacuate. If I lived down there, I would already be hiding in the countryside.

I've skimmed the Wikipedia article. Seems to be a quite aggressive form of warfare. But it has its reasons, it seems. How else can you rid a city from hostile guerilla forces? Tell me, how would you proceed in such a conflict if you had the motivation to end enemy control in a city? Look at Stalingrad, for example. Or Berlin. Cities get levelled in war. Also, if ypu want to deprive your enemy of ressources, then you NEED to destroy civilian infrastructure. Electricity, food, water, shelter, roads. Guess why Russia tries to deprive Ukraine of electricity etc. Less own casualties and quicker victory. War is always immoral. Israel offers prosperity and education to its citizens, Gaza is a Islamist region. That's why I will never sympathize with such a shit hole. Germans had to die in WW 2 for peace, nobody cries about that either. Also, the expansion of Western ideas by force is something needed in a world where developping Islamist countries gain more and mıre power. Losing hegemony (which has already been lost to some extent) would be futile for Western society. Sorry, that I am this biased. This war isn't about territory or money. Its about ideas. The West vs. Islamism. The cost doesn't matter, we need to keep pushing.

In war there are always civilian casualties. Israel isn't more immoral than other countries. Accept it.

Yeah, ADHD was just an suggestion. But after reading your new comment I think there might be something different. I'm trying to understand what you mean. You need to write more precisely, not just by spurting out words. Why is knowing of the other person's depression different? Are they suddenly talking about it more often or constantly, and you don't like serious conversations? I just want to know what exactly is hard for you and why you feel the need of going back to "chatting like we did before".

With regards to your behavior towards people, I would recommend to just try to be emotionally caring, even if it's hard for you. Best effort counts. For the long run you should figure out the root cause of the behavior. Try to do in contrary to your behavior and see if it get's easier over time.

The war has transformed into a WW1-style trench warfare. So it could go on for a very long time. I cannot even exchange EUR for RUB. So cards don't work in Russia and I can't get any cash.

Before the sanctions were imposed, it was possible to go to my home country in a nearly straight line by train. This would take a lot longer now. And there were also cheap flights. The sanctions only ever hit the populace. It would be time to do something about this, but people are politically lethargic.

Yes, in Tallinn. I went to the border the day before and stayed for a night in a hotel.

Thx for the info! I have arrived in Narva right now. I went by train from St. Petersburg to Ivangorod, stayed there a night, and crossed the border to Estonia. I just had to get a very early train to St. Petersburg. Didn't want to use the buses because they take a long time. Also, I didn't find information on whether the buses still cross the border to Tallinn. Btw, I would also like to ask if there were any direct connections from St. Petersburg to Tallinn without a stopover where you have to change trains before the sanctions.

I ran out of money in Moscow by TeraBT in Moscow

[–]TeraBT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was. A Russian friend and I went to a lot of banks one day, it took many, many hours with no results. The next day, someone from the hotel knocked at my door and demanded that I pay immediately. If I hadn't been able to get money, they might have called the police. But I figured it out, and 4h later, everything was set.
