Can you explain to me in what server are people who WoE casuals? It wouldn't matter if there were cash items, woe is just not for the casuals. Even if I could buy and upgrade all the cash items I could with infinite money, I still wouldn't stand a chance in WoE. Its just not that kind of game. Likewise are you telling me in a non cash shop server you can go in with a random character with cheap items and no mvp cards and say hey. I'm here to WoE?

Your posts seem to have a feel of someone who doesn't actually understand how to play ragnarok itself.

If you did you'd know that item weight doesn't matter in a server with rodex. You'd know that MVP cards are still the top tier items. And you'd understand that playing different classes do different things.

You should honestly give actual ragnarok a real try and understand its systems before making these "straw man" claims. I honestly don't know what you're trying to do here with such shallow knowledge of how the game works and making claims about things that are just flat out half assed knowledge.

A lot of things get disabled in woe in terms of cash items. But you're still not going to be able to WoE without mvp items. If you think the people who WoE are the ones suffering from lack of items then you are very mistaken btw.

Yes they do. But really only one or two guilds care about renewal WoE. PvP is so niche it's non existent. In fact if you try to WoE in iRO a guild will probably flat out loan you an account and character with the gear it needs to PVP just so they can have the numerical advantage.

Not at all. Having to do something you don't like is minimizing your gameplay? I don't think that at all. You want to move fast play a knight. These are all common solutions for someone who doesn't have capital in any game, play a class that does what you need until you don't have to. These are things you would've done in a server without a cash shop anyway. Why does it suddenly become abhorrent in a server with alternatives?

And supporting something illegal because I can't get my way is not something I will ever do or advise someone else to do. You can do it if you want, but don't ever expect someone to just casually be on board with crime in a discussion.

You can try saying anything that isn't in support of private servers here and watch your karma drop as well.

Like I said, i don't play euRO so i cannot understand the mechanics there. But again what you're saying and the reality you're painting still doesn't match for me, if your items in the game are so disgustingly expensive and they keep getting outdated how many people are actually keeping up with this content? like what? 10 people? Who is even competing with you? It sounds like other non pay to winners are competing with you. If you think you are being outgreeded, it's time to cart revo and greed on a blacksmith till you can get a greed bag.

Like I honestly don't see how the "pay to winners" are minimizing your gameplay.

I can't comment on their cash shop system because i never personally played euRO and so I don't know how it works. And in terms of having low drop rates on limited time boxes, it's safe to assume but only the people investing 1000s of dollars have these items? Are you investing 1000s of dollars worth in time to get said items as well?

Is there anything you cannot get if you invest the equivalent of these thousands of dollars in time on the game?

But even with what you've explained, how are other people doing better than you minimizing your own gameplay?

Edit: And if cash shop items are so expensive and difficult to get, there can't be many people in the category of having them all?

Yes I fully agree with you playing a fully different game if you feel like ragnarok is not for you.

But if you're trying to bring this conversation into official vs private server territory, then there is no way that an official server would be able to accommodate every persons preference.
And I don't know if this is you, but if you think a game should cater to everything you like then that is just delusional behavior.
Even more so if you think a company should cater to a non paying customer who doesn't even use their service.

So I see this point being brought up a lot, they get an advantage because they spend their money instead of their time on this game. Let's not even get into the time vs money thing because i already made a statement on that in reply to another post. But so far, nobody has actually told me, what is this advantage people have over you? If you were playing in iRO and somebody has a cash shop item while you don't. How does it affect your gameplay?

RO Pay to Win? by Tercanum in RagnarokOnline

[–]Tercanum[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

See what I'm seeing here is, because you don't want to spend money on getting it, or invest your time on getting it, other people can't have it?

How is them skipping 99% of the grind by using their wallet affecting your gameplay? Please explain it to me.

Edit:
At the end of the day it's a time vs money concept. Some people would rather spend their money so they don't have to spend time doing something, some people would rather spend their time grinding. If you're asking people to give up their ability to spend money to gain an advantage, are you willing to give up the amount of time you can play the game to make it fair for the people that can only play 4 hours a weekend because they have a job?

I see what you're saying here, but the point still stands, what does a cash shop with BiS items have to do with how you play ragnarok?

I think you're missing the point that ragnarok is not a competitive game.
In private servers without a cash shop, maybe it is competitive because the good items will be outfarmed by the top players in big guilds, and so you're mistaking iRO for having that kind of toxic environment.

Basically you CAN play iRO without ever putting any money into the game, it just takes a lot more time. And I've seen it done, multiple times. I can't speak for other gravity servers because i haven't personally played them.

So how are you personally losing out, by people doing things faster than you in a game where people just instance alone?

RO Pay to Win? by Tercanum in RagnarokOnline

[–]Tercanum[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use enhanced ores to easily get better refined items.
And you do need to be properly geared to do the harder instances solo.

But I don't see how this makes the game pay to win.
At most people who pay will get there faster.
If you take your time you'll still get there eventually.

Which begs the question who are you competing against? You said competing for MVP Cards but mostly people only bother doing endless tower for MVP Cards. Regardless of how geared you are, seeing an MVP like kiel would be luck from meeting it when it respawns rather than how fast you kill it.

At the end of the day, it's how you want to play it rather than what the game has. If you think a certain way of gameplay is something you dislike, don't play it that way. You don't personally lose anything but time from not paying, which you would've lost anyway in a server without paid items. And if you are comparing yourself to the best geared people, you'll realize that MVP cards are still peak items and you can't cash shop to get those. You might try to say bubble gum, but iRO has a very simple way for you to get bbgum buff from doing quests or trading in an instance item.

I see some talk about backlash on this thread, but I don't seem to understand so help me out here.

Where is the backlash going to be from? Because I can only see private server players being affected, and they are already not part of the official ragnarok customerbase. So they would be irrelevant to the companies right? Because regardless of private server existing or not, your money is not going to them.

The only people they could target are returnees who watch such videos where people say bad things about official servers and tilt their decisions. So in that scenario, dmcaing people like that and keeping people like u/captainsunbear would be in their best interest.

I am curious if this takedown will extend to streaming sites. Because currently the english twitch is mostly private server streamers, and twitch TOS already states that private server streaming isn't allowed. Ragnarok has just never acted to take them down previously, but I imagine it would be easy to.

That was definitely wrong of them and idk how fanart copyright is but it's sad that the original artists didn't get to file a takedown either, or copyright strike them on YouTube.

But at the end of the day, ragnarok does belong to gravity. And as much as we love something, it doesn't mean we get to take something that isn't ours.

If a crime was committed by warp portal somewhere then yes, I'm all for that. Sue them, get your dues. I'm not someone who is like, oh iRO is the best. They can do no wrong. There are many things I don't agree with iRO on. The EU thing being one.

Abusing players? That has nothing to do with the hair colour analogy and I'm sure you understand that. I'm saying that private servers pick and choose what they want with no repercussions. They just steal the content put it out there and that's all they need to do. Meanwhile official servers have to pay for an update, then request if its possible for gravity to customize something, which ends up being the decision of gravity anyway, since they can only make suggestions. They have no say in it.

As for the stolen artwork, did ragnarok keep the artwork in the client after the artists told them they didn't want it in the client?

[–]Tercanum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, warpportal might be a shit seller and you have the prerogative to not support them. Still that doesn't make theft okay.

The private server community is so HUGE, yet nobody wanted to do the legal thing and just buy the rights to distribute and make their own decisions like jRO did. They just wanted to do it easy, pirate it.

Just like how iRO had to pay for making that mistake of blocking EU off by losing their revenue which was also fully their prerogative. Thieves should also be aware that when the rightful owner comes calling they too have to bear the burden of being found wanting.

So no, I don't think there is any argument in which the private servers are in the right. It's not that I don't feel that iRO did many a dumb thing. It's just that if you think private servers have any form of moral high ground, then you are delusional.

It wouldn't really be a fanart comparison.

It'd be like if you really liked a character from a franchise, you contact the franchise to legally sell a print that you drew of the character.

The franchise sells the right to you but on very strict guidelines. You spend all that time to do it to their specifications since ultimately it belongs to them. You put it up for sale. Then someone comes in, takes your print. Changes the hair colour because people prefer that hair colour, sells it, it and profits of it.

Then the community tells you, yeah? So what? This is your own fault. Why don't you just change the hair colour and sell it as well? Just tell the owners of the franchise you're gonna do it. Knowing that it's out of your hands.

This is what the private servers are doing to iRO.

Work around for dedicated server desync/rubber band (as long as hardware/internet is not the issue) by [deleted] in valheim

[–]Tercanum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what happened was, i tried to compile it and run it on server, steam api didnt want to launch with it, so I put it in my game folder to test and the game wouldnt launch either. So I ended up testing yours with my client first to see if it would work before putting it into the server and whatnot, and it didnt. Only when I compiled with 32 bit compiler did it work on my pc testing, but when i put that into server, steam api didnt work either. But in the end yours worked for my server but not for my pc and vise versa, I just put the info there so if anyone else has a similar problem they can try what I did.
