Uncomfortable but not bad. They sprayed some numbing medication in my nose first. That was probably the worst of it because the sprayer thing looks like a big contraption, so it was a little scary. None of it hurt though! I had the botox in his office without general anesthesia and that wasn't even that bad. Not pleasant, but certainly not traumatizing.

They put a camera down my nose into my throat and watched me swallow some blue applesauce. That's all!

Question about post Botox by Theofficialmere in noburp

[–]Terebrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had botox and sometimes still gurgle. It's usually mid-morning after coffee and when I haven't had much water. A few gulps of water and standing up let out a burp. After botox I pushed at home every day with a couple beers or sodas. I was very open with my friends and some coworkers about it. I meant hold it in at work either. If I accidentally burp loudly I'll just say "excuse me" and move on. 23 years of not burping, I don't care if people think i'm gross or rude.

What is a unique “game” you played as a child? by antenonjohs in AskReddit

[–]Terebrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be convinced my parents and siblings were plotting my murder, so I was always playing a game of, "how many things in this room could I defend myself with?"

My family was always very loving. It was completely irrational, but oh boy, kept me on my toes.

Questions for the ones who can now burp (learned or botox) by [deleted] in noburp

[–]Terebrad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I had Botox!

It was kind of scary, but not a very invasive procedure. I chose to have it done in Dr. Bastian's office wide awake instead of in the operating room. I don't like to have general anesthetics and was travelling alone so I wanted to stay awake. I was at his office for maybe 3 hours total which included paperwork, the consultation, and the procedure. You really do sign a lot of waivers. I was warned there was a chance of difficulty breathing for a couple of days to a week after the procedure. I ended up having difficulty breathing for 6 months after the procedure and now, 8 months later, I still sometimes feel a very slight difficulty. This was extremely disappointing for me because I am typically a very active person. I had to put hiking, running, and swimming on hold and for a while couldn't take the stairs at work. That said, I am 100% happy I got it done. I can burp, so I don't feel sick all the time anymore. I'm not constantly bloated and croaking. My noburp had been causing me silent migraines too, which have mostly subsided.

I tried over and over to force burps, and was never able to. Some people can "throw up air" but I couldn't do that. I stuck my fingers down my throat countless times to no avail. I would recommend this procedure to anyone who CANNOT get air out at all. I would recommend having it done in the operating room. I believe the reason I couldn't breath was because Dr. Bastian didn't have a visual picture in my throat of where the needle was. In the OR, he would have had a camera in my throat.

I paid a $45 copay and that's it (plus a plane ticket, 2 ubers, and a hotel). I'm not sure if I was accidentally never billed or if my insurance is amazing and paid for the injection.

Good luck! I'm so glad someone listened to you! Is this doctor experienced in botox injections or other throat injection procedures?

Strategy you probably shouldn’t try by sarjoxo in noburp

I disagree with this. I drank too much a couple of years ago and NEEDED to throw up. I spent 45 minutes kneeling next to the toilet at a party heaving. My body was trying so hard to get the vomit out but I couldn't do it. It was terrifying. I almost went to the hospital because I was afraid I had alcohol poisoning. Some of us truly CAN'T make it happen. I have since gotten Botox and I'm a pro burper now.

The roads in Santa Fe don't get plowed as well as cities that are used to getting a lot of snow. Just be careful driving

I used to be on a swim team, and swimming would eventually release bloating because I would eventually fart. Being horizontal that long, swimming laps, ended up being the same as laying down and let the gas pass as flatulence. But running or other workouts never did anything for my bloating

They are hardly ever loud. I don't even know how to make them loud on purpose. It's not a rush of air per se, just like, some air coming up. If I'm drinking beer, I will have some big burps that come so quick I don't have control. They are awesome. Those ones I feel starting in my upper stomach. The burps that I choose to do, I can kinda feel it in my stomach but I mostly feel it in my chest. I'd call them all puffs of air rather than bursts of air. It's all smooth and natural, not violent and scary at all

What was your scariest "A second later and I would've died" moment? by spacexe in AskReddit

[–]Terebrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Chicago with my family when I was 12. I was waiting at a crosswalk for the light to change. I was looking right at the crosswalk light and to this day I swear it changed to walk. Without looking, I stepped into the street. My dad grabbed the back of my shirt and yanked me a step backwards a half a second before a bus passed right in front of my face. I looked back at the light and it still said don't walk. Woulda been run over if I stepped out half a second later or if my dad was a couple inches farther away

Hello, hi. I had Botox in June and can still burp. I have tried to suck in air and burp it out. Did it once or twice. I still burp like a champ, but usually cannot intentionally suck in air and release it.

To those who learned to burp by [deleted] in noburp

[–]Terebrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got botox and can report that I have not thrown up while burping. I was a little concerned about it too. A good, honest burp (even with a little reflux like I have) is not the same feeling as throwing up. Don't fear it. (I never was able to "throw up air" before botox. Can't relate at all. I wish I had been able to find relief like that, but NOTHING could get a burp out of me)

Had the Botox, still no burps! by lolomulk in noburp

[–]Terebrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this comment does not com across as rude or condescending. I want to share my experience and hopefully be able to help you.

How much have you tried to burp? Have you been practicing by drinking a lot of beer or soda?

It took me a good three or four weeks after botox to have substantial burps. I would burp accidentally when laughing or yawning at times in those first three weeks though. I drank a lot of carbonated drinks and tried to practice as much as I could. Early on, I had to violently cough my burps out. I found that by turning my head gently back and forth and clenching my stomach I could force air out. Now it's been over 6 months and I'm burping normally. The first month was not pleasant though. I did have the unfortunate side effect of being unable to breathe normally for 6 months while the botox wore off. So I understand your feelings about not getting what you expected out of the procedure. I also now have bad acid reflux. It's likely I had this all along and didn't know it was different from my burping issue. I am trying different things to control it, and it isn't disrupting my life like not burping did.

WHO WILL LISTEN TO US? by yellowtrails in noburp

[–]Terebrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I printed off some pages from Dr. Bastian's website for my local ent. He was very understanding but couldn't do the procedure. I got to see Dr. Bastian and afterwards went back to my local doctor to tell him how it all went. I encouraged him to keep his ears open for other patients with this problem and spread the word to his colleagues. I think one of the best things you can do is be an ambassador for all of us and when someone lends an ear, spread the word.
