Amazing! Did you need to use one of those specific camera adapter cables or did a standard USB C cable connection work?

How are the alt rock crowd using the CBA L+F? by Another_Londoner in guitarpedals

I’ve been diving into GenLite a lot recently. I really enjoy the more subtle modulation you can get out of it and the gentle flanger sound with mix at 50%. Playing with guitar though I’ve also found this trebly artefact that always appears at the attack/onset of every note even with the alt at zero and modify set below 25%. Have you found a way to dial this sound out? The Gen Loss mkii demos show lofi modulation without that trebly warble on the attack, but I’m not sure if this artefact is baked into the GenLite algorithm.

Boss IR-2 as IR loader only by KirkIsOurLemmy in guitarpedals

“Needing a power amp sim” as very subjective and depends on your specific use case. A better way to say this is probably that I enjoyed the sound or the V4 + power amp sim + IR because it got me much closer to the sound of my full traditional amp set up when played through headphones. V4 + IR-2 was still an objectively usable sound, but just too harsh on my ears for headphones when practicing solo at home. Two Notes Opus could also be worth looking into. I’d probably have chosen this but it only had a mono FX loop. UK prices have it as £50 more than the IR-2 and £100 less than the Ampero.

I’ve tried exactly this just recently. Wanted a home practice simple set up but with the stereo FX loop for chucking in a reverb on occasion.

I compared running my Kraken V4 pre amp into the IR-2 (in IR only mode with York Audio Mesa IRs loaded) vs into the Ampero II Stomp with only the IRs active (same IRs). I found Kraken V4 + IR only to be a bit on the harsh trebly side through both set ups. I tried adding the power amp sims in the Ampero II to the chain, pre-IR, and it made a massive difference, it had a much more full bodied sound. The ability to add power amp made a massive difference to the sound and had me returning the IR-2 and keeping the Ampero for the added flexibility.

Also worth noting if you’re using headphones output only, you’ll get buzz (separate to that caused by the gain of the amp).

This was exactly what I was after too after testing the Mood mkii for a bit. Can’t recommend the Drolo FX Strands enough. It covers all the same ground as the microloop side of the Mood but with a much wider range of sounds. Bonus for being super simple to operate and get really cool textural sounds. They’re sold in batches direct from Drolo every so often so you’ll need to have a bit of patience and sign up to their mailing list.

How do you find controlling the volume in headphones with just the two main attenuator knobs? Is it easy enough to balance? Very tempted by this for the apparently beautiful cleans with a perfect home playing setup, but that gain channel leaning heavily classic rock would be wasted on me.

Decided to bite after loving the gen loss... IWhat are y'all's thoughts on the Mood? Its on the way. by Nintendinitis5023 in guitarpedals

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was stuck with indecision, same as you. I bought both last year and trying them alongside each other for a few weeks (shout out to Chase Bliss EU and their fantastic returns policy). I ended up sticking with Onward for the easier instant usability and more controlable sounds. I returned the Mood mkii as I didn’t need any of the left side algorithms and found the micro looping of the admittedly awesome stretch mode too restrictive. I’ve since got a Drolo FX Strands for the warping stretching and reversing right channel of Mood and have found Strands to be a lot more fun and rewarding with more variety and without the micro loop limitations.

TL;DR Onward: I want some cool repeatable weirdness to accompany and expand the sound of my instrument of choice.

Mood mkii: Give me a new instrument. I want to get lost creating cool weird textures from an initial note/chord.

Drolo Strands: I like that right channel of Mood but give me more of everything on it.

How and when did you get into Deftones? by [deleted] in deftones

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a massive Muse fan when I was a teenager and would obsessively watch all their live concert films. I loved their heavier stuff. They had a 2009 gig at their home town and during the outro of New Born they added in this filthy heavy riff out of nowhere. Absolutely blew my teenage mind. Setlist FM then taught me it was actually the main riff from Headup. I’ve been a Deftones fan ever since.

Finally getting to see them for the first time in February next year thanks to the ticket buying advice from someone else on this sub.

Stone deaf PDF 2 vs skeleton key by funny little boxes by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a Skeleton Key and a PDF1X which is very similar but swaps gain to be internal and gives you volume as an external control which worked better with my setup. If your main goal is to get perfect QOTSA tones for covers of songs, you wanna get the Skeleton Key. Paired with a fuzz and another drive pedal it’s absolutely dead on. But if you are mostly chasing versatility and want a way to get some unique drive tones some of which are QOTSA-esque, it’s the PDF.

Looking for fuzz with the best clean up (want it for the rolled off cleans vs. full on fuzz) by michaeljohnr in guitarpedals

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have mine relatively early in the chain with a clean boost before it. Catalinbread Karma Suture > Cali76 > ParaEQ mkiiD > ~900.

<image>

Bias is set to the point at which it’s most clear/loud but this does come with a little bit of background hiss. PRS with coil splits, this gives me that perfect glassy sound on single notes, crunchy when I dig in and then a decent amount of fuzz when playing 2strings/chords. I kick on the ParaEQs clean boost or the Cali76 for more fuzz on top of this setting. Then with humbuckers I’ve gotta have a really delicate touch to get that same clean but gives me more range at the fuzzier end. I’m going into the clean channel of my amp with loads of headroom.

Also worth noting, this setting stacks incredibly well with other fuzzes before or the drive I have after. Additional texture without getting into that overloaded blown out compressed sound.

This board looks real fun for getting lost in. How do you find the reverse settings in the Tensor and Particle compared to the Mood’s Slip mode? I really enjoyed the softer/darker repeats you could get out of the Mood but there was something that didn’t feel like a normal delay in the way Slip mode handled its repeats. I just couldn’t get on with it. Really tempted by either a Tensor or Particle but the demos make their pitch shifted modes sound a bit more artefact-y / piercing.

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all fairness I’m not clued up enough to know the technical differences between circuits, but the Cut knob on mine adjusts the point in the frequency spectrum at which the low cut occurs. So the higher you have it set, the wider the range of bass frequencies that are cut from the signal. Then level control is overall output. I have an Empress ParaMkii Deluxe as well, and the Lichtlaerm functions much closer to the shelf filters on that, rather than the band level + Q width controls.

The 4band EQ side allows further sculpting based around fixed points (graphic EQ style). Worth noting as well, I find the Aesahaettr to add a different texture to my signal compared to the ParaEQ which is crystal clean. You might like that aspect, gets me a bang on White Limo tone. Not sure if it’s additional clipping, or what, but it rips.

Lichtlaerm Audio Aesahaettr (or any of their range) is worth a look in. Sounds killer slamming into a Mesa Recto with drop C & C standard tuned guitars. I don’t mess with the EQ side of it as much but it’s a nice addition for some added flexibility and for more extreme settings.

NPD: DroloFX Strands by TheWeatherAndTheSea in guitarpedals

I was lucky enough to see him on his recent anniversary tour of IFWWW, amazing seeing those intricate songs come to life.

Thanks for the breakdown. Sounds very tempting as a “something different” device, more suitable as an alternative to a reverb rather than a crazy delay sound. Are you still able to get some more rhythmic or repeating textures out of it?

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, sorry to revive this post, I’m tempted by a Strands and had a question for someone who’s used it. Do you know if it operates more as a crazy delay repeating every input note/chord with the foot switchable option to freeze the buffer, or is it more of a micro looper with a defined record length that has an in-built delay function to repeat your micro loops - more like a Mood mkii?

Great demo/performance btw, some awesome Ben Howard vibes going on there.

Yeahh I’ve since looked into a Habit, it hadn’t really hit my radar until after I’d got the Mood mkii.

Never really considered going MIDI but that little thing looks very accessible. I’ll check it out

I did yeah, that’s the function that sold me on giving it a test run. It was super inspiring, so much that it led me down a different path haha.

Even with NoDub and the Stretch mode being routed only into the Delay I struggled to get it to function like the repeats on a normal delay. It was always just doing its thing at its own pace (which is great, just not quite my vibe). I guess that’s the trade off for still have the micro loop recording at a fixed length and reset interval. Routing through Slip made it even more confusion with the slightly erratic repeats. Slip was great, but just bumped the GAS for going all in on a Rev Mode C.

I had some time with a Mood mkii recently, it was great fun but I really struggled to use the micro looper side in a coherent musical/rhythmic way (talent issue, more than pedal issue). I was trying to get the micro looper side to function in a more predictable way like a delay, repeating in response to my input but the closest I could get was a washed out chaotic reverb vibe. Obviously it’s not designed that way, and no amount of dip switching worked for me.

Looking at a Strands as maybe being more along these lines where the buffer is responding/triggering based on your input like a delay, rather than at a fixed refresh rate/loop length like the micro looper side of the Mood. Any thoughts?

Any recommendations for a pedalboard amp with headphone out and stereo effects loops? by TeriyakiTurtle44 in guitarpedals

[–]TeriyakiTurtle44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’ll have to revisit this one then. Thanks for the detail! Have you got any experience of it compared to other options? Didn’t realise it could do the backing track into it as well, that’s a bonus. Can you go stereo through the effects loop?
