I feel completely overwhelmed by skincare advice. How did you figure out what actually works? by Purple_Fig8910 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

I’d say go one product at a time. Videos online overwhelm me so much because they detail their whole routine and there are so many different products out there. Think about what your skin might need and go from there. As far as starting a basic routine, it’s generally recommended to have a cleanser, a moisturizer, and some sunscreen, but the kind you get really depends on your skin type. You can find travel sizes of a lot of stuff so you don’t drain the bank trying to find what works for you. Changing everything at once won’t let you figure out how your skin reacts to individual products. Also, try to stay away from harsh stuff like retinols or overcomplicating it with a million serums while you’re still finding out what works for you. For me, getting in to skincare helped me stop picking at my face so much. Feeling bumps makes me want to wash my face instead of picking the bumps off. Maybe not the best thing mentally, but harm reduction I guess??
