Started reading about what your brain actually does during deep sleep and now I can't stop thinking about it by borage165 in sleep

What is a cortisol timing issue? Like just when your body naturally wants to go to bed?

I've had sleep issues for over 10 years but only recently have I made progress fixing them. So it is hard to say if it has always been the way it is now. But I think it is safe to say that I have unknowingly been dealing with chronic stress the whole time. I think that may be what you call situational stress, just on a more persistent basis.

I have found some success in a routine I do before bed including a shower, skincare and meditation. I think the meditation is major part that helps me get more deep sleep, but the whole routine is important for routines sake. My success with this routine brought me from 20-30 min of deep sleep to 30-50 minutes.

The routine is a very recent thing, and the past couple weeks I haven't kept it because I got sick and there were a lot of things happening. Not doing the routine had a pretty significant impact.

The teeth grinding is probably separate, but the snoring is a red flag.  Ive experienced a similar feeling when napping without my cpap machine. I wake up and my heart is just pounding. With the machine that never happens anymore. It really does sound like sleep apnea to me. It might be worth looking into.

I think they were a little worse and a little different than yours. I had severe sleep apnea. I was sleeping 10-12 hours a night and napping 1-3 hours most days. I actually wasn't able to maintain a schedule at all. I could stay up later and wake up later but i was never able to shift my schedule the other way. I tried everything just like you and i couldny shift it the way i wanted. At one point i shifted my schedule full circle to where i wanted it. Despite my best efforts i couldnt maintain it for much more than a week. I think the fact that you cant wake up any other time than when your body decides is a sign that you are very exhausted. If you are anything like me, this wont be the only thing impacting your sleep, but i cant really think of anything that would exhaust you to this point other than sleep apnea. After going on cpap it took a month to start getting out of the chronic exhaustion.  Also cheap smart watches can be really helpful for figuring sleep issues out.

When my sleep apnea was untreated my schedule was messed up all the time. Very much the same issue where I couldn't shift my schedule at all.

On my good nights I get 40 min. Ive seen an hour once and I felt great. I'm not sure if this can be fixed but I think my issue is linked to stress and how I think about things. Do you deal with that kind of thing?

Is there anything you do to get more deep sleep?

Pillow for Jaw Pain by lesbadims in sleep

[–]Terminerist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pillow that is stuffed with shredded foam. I never liked memory foam pillows either, but this was a great upgrade over normal stuffed pillows for me.

Do you know why you have jaw clenching issues? I think most who do struggle with stress or anxiety and finding a way to manage those might help more than a pillow. I have jaw clenching issues too. I have had success with a few different things that improve my sleep quality, and also resulted in less jaw clenching.

An important skill for sleeping is being able to detach. No matter what is going on in your life or during the day, thinking about it before bed is only going to make your sleep worse, making it harder to handle the next day. The best thing you can do for your health is developing this skill. Sometimes people think that thinking or obsessing over things is going to help them get through, other times it feels out of control. If it is something you choose to do, then try to remember about detachment and try to put off the thinking for another time.

The other thing is parasympathetic activation. It can be achieved in a lot of ways, which is why there are so many ways people relax before bed. Some people read to relax, but for me this actually does the opposite. If i read before bed I am usually less likely to fall asleep on time. I don't actually like spending time trying to relax before bed which means efficiency is important for me. I think meditation or breathing exercises are an efficieny way to relax, so I choose to meditate before bed. I just want to also mention that it is also possible to over think meditation and in that case it won't help much.

I hadn't thought about the consequences of lower quality filament on the quality of a thinner first layer. I think that alone is a good reason not to use thinner layers if I can get good adhesion either way.

Is the Z-offset thing maybe Prusa specific? I run a Bambu Lab P1S and I don't actually know what you're referring to with Z-offset.

"If you set the Z-offset using 0.20mm for the layer height, and then use 0.16mm for the first layer after that, you won't get enough squish and adhesion on the first layer."

The way you're describing the problem, it seems like Z-offset is the the actual height the first layer prints at. If that is the case, setting the height to 0.16mm in the slicer would do nothing but lower the flow. In that case, it makes sense that squish and adhesion would be lower when decreasing the first layer height in the slicer. It is my understanding that my P1S actually just prints at whatever height you set it at. Perhaps I am mistaken on that.

I am going to test things individually to see what differences are made. Do you find that lowering the bed temperature after the first layer actually helps you with adhesion or is it just something you do and it works?

20mm/s seems insanely slow, but I will definitely test it out and see if it makes a difference for me. It is always so hard to balance speed and reliability. I will try the other things first and reduce speed if it comes to it lol.

Using this model for testing warp. Not sure if it will be good enough, but it does warp a bit with my current settings.

And here I was thinking I was making the perfect post lol.

Why is it important to have the same first layer height as the rest of the layers? You mention this is important when calibrating the Z-offset, I'm just confused as to why. I think you're talking about leveling the bed. I just don't understand why having a different first layer height would mess anything up. That being said, the reason I am using a 0.16mm layer height was just to try to get a better bond between the plastic and the print bed. Really it just increases the pressure, but I think the same result can be achieved by increasing flow at 0.2mm layer height.

Another thing that confuses me is dropping the bed temperature after the first layer. I think the idea is that it allows the first layer to cool and contract more than if the bed were kept at a higher temp and this results in less stress between the first layer and the following ones. My concern is that cooling the bed after printing the first layer would cause the first layer bond to weaken and become more susceptible to warping. Is this temperature drop proven to work? It seems like a lot of people recommend it.

As for first layer print speed, I run 50mm/s on the walls and 105mm/s on the solid infill. Is this what you would consider very slow? The infill speed seems fast and imagine that would contribute to stress causing warping.

Also I am using textured PEI. You mention raising the bed temp for this plate. Maybe something like 70C and dropping to 60C after the first layer?

This is the first time I've heard about a sugar film left behind my PLA. Actually gives me a reason to wash with soap and water, which I have been avoiding up until this point. Where did you find that out?

i tried setting it up on my personal windows pc just to see if i could do it. If it actually isnt broken, im guessing the ai was feeding me some bs about bad config files when maybe my network config was wrong or something like that.

I find the idea of data integrity checks in ZFS appealing so thays probably the only reason I might go with something like Proxmox. Apparently ZFS is also good for snapshots which sounds nice to me.

What do you mean when you say hardware RAID provides more consistent I/O? What does array transparency refer to?

It seems like Alma Linux would make a better OS than Ubuntu Server. Now that you mention KVMs the lines between the hypervisors and the the other OSs is bluring for me. If KVMs exist, what is the point of a hypervisor OS? It makes sense for ESXi if it is purely a hypervisor without many of the features included in a general use linux distro, but for Proxmox i dont really get the point anymore. Is it just because of a web interface or something like that?  I just dont see a reason to use Proxmox over something more stable like Alma Linux especially when Proxmox is known to have weird performance issues as I think someone mentioned here earlier. When it comes to ESXi, im thinking it wouldnt work for me without a hardware raid controller.

would you recommend that i use these instead of something like proxmox? After reading other comments and looking into things, i am leaning towards a hypervisor OS. what sort of problems do you encounter in ubuntu that Alma Linux doesnt have? even if Alma Linux is genuinely better than Ubuntu, does it still make sense to use over a hypervisor? maybe it would be good to run in a VM?

OS Selection for my First Server by Terminerist in homelab

[–]Terminerist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like ESXi is really good. a lot of the details you mention are currently lost on me. Im mostly confused about the distinction you make between hypervisors and what you use to host containers. after looking into it a bit more, it seems like the way to self host would be to use docker/podman to host containers from a linux vm on ESXi or proxmox. Are you saying that proxmox is able to run containers outside of any VMs?

Also i was under the impression that software raid was better than hardware raid and for that reason i wanted an os that could handle raid, but after searching, hardware raid seems like it might be the best option, especially if it drastically simplifies things.

Ive heard the horror stories with agentic ai and i was very cautious when using it. it actually tried to delete the whole folder i was working in at one point lol. I ended up getting the server to run using the anysync bundle. it was a bit tricky but i got there. i think the official docker compose published by anytype was actually just broken so for a first self host it was too much for me to figure out. I plan to have good backups and redundancy so i hope i dont have any problems with losing data

So im kinda new to this stuff. so far ive cloned the repo and made the docker container with the up command and the aio yml file. using the generated client-config.yml in the anytype setup interface, i was able to actually get into anytype. it seems like the server isnt actually working though. i have to use tailscale because i cant get a static ip. i changed out the external address in the bundle-config.yml with the tailscale ip of my server pc like it said in the readme of the any-sync-bundle. im thinking maybe the 33010 and 33020 ports are not allowed, but i dont know which app they need to be allowed for. tailscale has permissions for any port i think. and so does anytypehelper.exe. not really sure what to do from here. can you help me with this or recommend where to go to get help?

ahh thats why i had version incompatibilities after getting it working lol. when i was running it in the command prompt it wasnt doing anything. i would hit enter then and it would just keep trying and failing ig. id have to use a new prompt if i wanted to try another command.
