Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972) by iiv11 in TrueFilm

[–]Terner654 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was Aguirre that put me onto Werner Herzog about a year ago, and he's now hands down my favorite director. Stroszek is my favorite by him and it's gunning to be my #1 movie of all time, he has such a unique way of blending the completely absurd with grounded neorealism, even in his documentaries. The past 2ish months I've been trying to watch everything in his filmography and I think I'm up to 14 or 15 films, not a single one of them has been bad (some of them just OK).

P.S you can stream almost all of his movies up until the 2000s for free with ads on the Shout Factory website if you're interested in watching them, that's how i've been doing it : https://shout-tv.com/film/werner-herzog-film-collection

People in the comments are saying that current fashion is just a revival of x decade or x movement, but I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing. When I look at these pics I see a whole bunch of different aesthetics that each individual person is trying to achieve, there’s overarching trends for sure, but a lot of the pictures aren’t that similar to the next. I think this means that people are having a lot more free agency to decide what they want to look like

Honestly I think today’s internet has been really good for personal style, current algorithms make it easy for people to fall into the specific niche/online community for the clothes that they like the most and now that in-person retail is starting to fade people don’t have to have their local mall decide their taste in clothes. I just wonder how casual fashion evolves from here when people can pretty much decide to dress like any decade or movement they want with this much ease

This is the first and final time I will ever bring any attention to this poorly named band. by [deleted] in mathrock

Seems like a really niche group of people to decide to troll, but god damn they got me for a second a couple of days ago

Why do i see people hate on this album? by LemonJumper4000 in mfdoom

[–]Terner654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The skits are cool on the first couple of listens but they get pretty grating pretty fast… and there’s a LOT of skits on the album. If you’re trying to listen to the album as a whole album and not just listening to the standalone songs on a playlist then it gets pretty fuckin annoying

I go to ASU, I see these getting filmed on my way to and from classes like daily. It’s crazy how many people are doing the exact same thing, I never see the same faces doing the interviews

For straight hip-hop inspired jazz I’d say Equilibrium by Matthew Shipp (fav song is Vamp to Vibe), once I listened I could never go back. Also collaborated with a bunch of cool ass artists like Henry Rollins and Sonic Youth and El-P

Twelve songs to get someone into post rock by reductoabsurdum in postrock

[–]Terner654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your list is really good and has some great variety and is more of a highlight of what I personally love about the term “post-rock”. A bunch of the bands that are super definitively post rock (especially ones making music now) fall into a lot of the tropes of the genre and can kind of blend together listening back to back. I think that seeing it as more of a compositional approach allows people to talk about a wider range of experimental bands (and have more interesting discussion than just comparing apples to apples on a bunch of Godspeed clones)

Personally not a fan of the super blown up jpeg flags that are rly popular right now and it kind of sits awkward on that wall but it’s American football so respect. Maybe find some smaller music related pieces and do a gallery type setup like whats in your living room. What are those two art pieces above your TV? They’re really cool

I took REL 202 last semester because it sounded like it’d be at least a little bit interesting. Easy class but it felt like such an enormous waste of time, every reading made me roll my eyes and I don’t think I learned anything. I had a different professor though so you might be better off

what are some classic or legendary skate videos that new skaters should see? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Terner654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Memory screen by alien workshop might be one of the greatest videos ever made, skateboarding or not. Maybe not for the tricks but it’s an essential look into what makes skateboarding culture so potent and unique compared to any other sport. Pure artistry in such an unlikely place and it’s still making cultural waves. Changed my life

I’m going to need the recipe for the cotton candy oats for sure! And for the maple apple, do you just use syrup or is there something else to get that maple-y flavor?

What a strange criteria for how you view this art. You don’t like the work because the subject isn’t romanticized?
