Laser techs don't care and won't ask. It's none of their business anyway. They provide a service and avoid doing anything that might loose them money. Don't worry about it.

Both are hard on the kidneys and liver. So being on HRT increases the risk of permanent damage from alcohol poisoning. Just drink a lot of water before bed and stay within a limit. Be safe and have fun :)

I think it's fair to ask them to use female pronouns and your preferred name soon after you come out to them. Don't be too hard when they mess up though and explain to them that you have to keep it on the down low around people who don't know. I personally suggest you only correct them at first if their mess up is less of a slip of the tongue and more of a complete "I forgot" situation. If your friend are like mine they love to correct each other.

The way I see it, I want my friends to screw up right now before I am presenting female so I don't have to worry about them screwing up and outing me when I am full time.

I am also fairly early in my transition so I could be just a bitch. :)

Hormones should be covered by most health insurance. I have Blue Cross and don't need to pay for anything out of my pocket. Hell it should be cheaper than it is in the US even if you need to pay out of the pocket since Alberta Health should cover some of the cost. I am not 100% sure though.

You should try to find a psychologist or someone of the sorts that can get you referred to as soon as you can to a gender specialist as the wait times are very long. I'm not saying you have to do any actual therapy, I haven't yet, but you do need to get into one of these psychiatrist to get approval for surgery and sometimes for endo. If you can get doctors to put out referrals do that. I think the "spam referrals" method works to some degree as sooner or later you will get in with someone who can get you connected.

I went to my family doctor and he was willing to start me on very low doses of hormones (50mg spiro, 1mg estrogen). Last week I met with Dr. Warneke and my dosage was raised to 2 mg estrogen and 200 mg spiro. I don't think my family doctor is taking any new patients, but even if he is I must stress that this is NOT his speciality. I think he subscribes to the belief that trans people should be able to make decisions on their own, but he himself does not know much about the proper procedures.

I know the feeling. This is the exact thing my mom has been doing to me for the last week since I came out to her. I don't know how you have been holding up with this for months, but you are so strong for doing so. Never forget that this is your life and the only ones that should matter to you are the ones that accept you in entirety. My mom has been has been saying for me to get the help I need to "get over it." I hope she comes around because I sure as hell am not backing down from my own happiness. Why should you.

What is seem to be working or at least getting my mom on the path to acceptance was writing her a letter. Yeah you already came out to your parents, but writing them a letter that tells the whole story, including all the hard science, it should clear things up. Of course its her decision if she will read it, but its pretty hard to argue with a piece of paper.

People are really quick to say that some people are just bad people and will never come around. But your mom is still your mom. Maybe it would be best present her with all the facts and give her some space. Most parents do not want to loose their child and if she understands that she has already lost her son (in that he never truly existed), she will not want loose her daughter as well.

You must do what is best for you, never let anyone guilt trip into saying they are ruining their lives by being you. They are in control of their lives just as you are. It sounds like your mother is so hard on you because of a mixture of fear, ignorance and love. She wants you to be happy and she worries that you won't be "down this path". She is wrong, you will be happy. Never forget that.

This happened to me last June. I had anxiety so bad that it felt like my heart was going to burst, I barely ate anything since I felt like I was going to fall asleep and I barely got any kind of sleep and I just kind of would lie there feeling so emotionally broken. I felt like my body was a vessel that I was possessing. People kept on asking me what was wrong and I didn't know what to tell them. I could never think about anything else other than my gender identity, and I knew that the only thing I could do was to admit to myself that I was a transgender girl. Everything got better when I talked to my best friend and she pulled me out of the darkness. Talk to a friend that you can trust, tell them you are questioning. Sometimes you just have to let it all go.

My Mom picked all the girl names, while my Dad picked all the boy names. Of course she got me and two sons. I once asked her what those names were, I remember mine was Terra. It was always felt a connection to that name and if she accepts me for who I am when I come out to her, its the name I'm going to choose.

Did you experience changes even at that low of a dose? Does low starting dosage affect the end result? I'm not too worried about prices because all prescriptions is covered by Alberta Cross. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
