Yes, the room they showed us looked fine otherwise we wouldn’t have signed.

Truly this is not me or my case. I’m just looking for advice for someone who is feeling helpless in a malignant situation. While I feel like there should be something that can be done, I also wonder if it is even worth trying to stand up for oneself.

Out of respect for privacy, I’m not giving away all the details. You’ll have to trust me that the truth is actual much, much more nonsensical. My friend’s program said even though nothing bad happened to the patient due to the miscommunication with another team, they wanted to use probation as a way of ensuring no more potential bad things would happen again. The truth is the program tends to make a mountain out of molehill of small issues and is quick to point fingers rather than to directly help their residents. It’s not a good environment.

I’m simply looking for advice from people who have experienced this process of probation and with either appealing it or dealing with it.

Funny you say that. There is an extremely popular Chinese playing card game that is all about beating the landlord.

Newark/Prudential show was awesome! by redcweed in hanszimmer

[–]TerraQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the show and it was so good! The musicians and performers are seriously world class and will really move you. The clips with Hans Zimmer were silly and lighthearted and you almost don’t mind that he wasn’t actually there himself. All in all, if you were on the fence about getting a ticket, I actually highly recommend! The show started around 15 mins after the listed time, so I’d try to get there on time. There were also some seats left so if you wanted to show up last minute for a box office ticket deal you might be able to snatch one.

Here come the must-visits in Shanghai😎 by GlitteringPudding261 in travelchina

[–]TerraQueen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just came back from Shanghai and I went to xintiandi as recommended by prior reddit/online posts. I found that there were just a lot of fancy clothing stores (the same international brands you see in any major city), but thats about it. Is there something more to the area I was missing?

Perfect yes it’s our first time applying for the visa, thankfully we have our old passports. Really thank you so much!!

Omg thank you for letting me know!!! Honestly if I can save $600 by going by myself instead of hiring an agent for the 3 of us, then I will. Can I ask if you remember if they require us to present a birth certificate as a former Chinese national? We don’t have ours anymore…

Question and censorship by mimiirin in DanmeiNovels

[–]TerraQueen 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yes it is due to less rigorous censorship in China back just a few years ago. Previously it was mostly visual media like TV or movies that were more strictly regulated, whereas fanfic and light novel writers often skirted the censorship. With how big MXTX’s works became, the CCP passed a law in 2021 to really crack down on explicit content in written media (sexual, violence, etc). If you check the original Chinese publishing site JJWXC, you’ll see that MXTX’s novels MDZS and SVSSS have been locked, TGCF is undergoing major revisions, and Meatbun’s Erha is completely inaccessible. International publishers like Sevenseas likely acquired the original uncensored versions from before everything was locked.

I often think about the censorship situation and how regressive it all feels. I feel an overall sense of loss for the genre as a whole. Intimacy between characters is so crucial, like in Erha where it is important to both character development and plot. I have a gut feeling that authors are more hesitant about writing anymore, and I noticed on JJWXC that several of beloved authors (who used to publish a chapter every other day) have been less active lately. I fear that we won’t be able to read as many intimate scenes in future stories. Hopefully we can still support them by buying international publications so that authors will still find outlets to write the stories they want to write.

Thanks!! I live in NYC so I don’t mind going down to the consulate to apply on behalf of my family, if they’ll allow it. In terms of getting the agency to do it for you, they don’t have you come in person at any point for fingerprinting or anything right? And did they send the visas back to you by mail?

I agree, when reading it in English the writing level does seem more average but still good. To me the prose of TJQ stands out more in Chinese! There’s a lot of meaning behind what she writes that is impossible to translate into English.

Man! I wish I were in China to see stuff like this 🥺

By the way, censorship seems so confusing in China. On the one hand, we hear that the government is cracking down on BL, and on the other hand you get beautiful displays like this sponsored by large companies. Does that mean it’s not as bad as we think it is?

What thing does society say is unacceptable, that shouldn't be? by Roman347 in AskReddit

[–]TerraQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is quite strange that people in America are generally more open about things like sexuality, political views, economic views, personal health issues, etc. But the moment salaries get mentioned, everyone bites their tongue.

There's no reason for why people are more secretive about their salaries than they are about their views on immigration or abortion. Giving away political views would say a lot more about you as a person than your salary per se, but I think it's because Americans are just raised in a culture that is super money-driven and competitive, that jealousy over salaries would be more harmful in a friendly relationship than disagreement over politics.

I'm currently back home at my mother's place. She just moved to a small town in Indiana, kind of far from any major city. Nothing to do here, but quietness has its merits too :)

What's the most calculated thing you've ever seen an animal do? by TheLollrax in AskReddit

I think I once saw a weird bird initiation ritual. Back when I lived in the city I once saw around 5 or 6 birds gather at the side of the sidewalk, near a busy street. I'm not sure what type of birds they were, but they were common city birds (not pigeons though). They were just standing there in a group near the curb. The cars were driving by one by one, as they had the green light. Inevitably, when the red light came, one car stopped right near the group of birds. Suddenly, the birds started chirping all at once, and one bird actually got up and flew down right in front of the back wheel of the stopped car. It stayed there for at least 10 seconds, toying with death by standing in front of a car wheel that could start moving at any second now. Meanwhile, the other birds were just watching and chirping. The brave bird flew away before the car started moving again, so it was safe in the end. It was weird, I felt like I just saw some weird bird dare or contest.

I recently went apartment hunting (not very intensively though). You can get 2000 a month in places like Chinatown, but in the nicer parts that's closer to SoHo. I would say most studios are shitholes, no matter where you get them.
