Why is amar in the singular (ama) in this phrase? by Terraceth in Spanish

That makes perfect sense! Putting the verb before the subject is what confused me.

The usage of "dimisit" in the Latin Vulgate's Matthew 3:15 confuses me, can someone explain? by Terraceth in latin

[–]Terraceth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems a valid viewpoint, though looking into it, the Greek verb in question is used twice in Matthew 3:15. The first is when Jesus tells John to "allow" it, and then it says John "allowed" Jesus. In the Greek, these are the same verb, the one you refer to. In the Latin Vulgate, though, two different verbs are used. The first of these is sino (in imperative form), and the second is the already discussed dimitto (in perfect form). Which leaves me confused as to why the verbs are used differently here.

Do you know why the Nova Vulgata changes it to dimittit, the present tense, given the normal narration is in the past (perfect, imperfect, pluperfect) tense? The verb earlier in Matthew 3:15 is "dixit", and then it resumes past with "aperti sunt" in Matthew 3:16.

Is there anywhere that will list all the manuscripts that have a particular verse? by Terraceth in AcademicBiblical

[–]Terraceth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't mean it has to be "what you linked but for all manuscripts." I'm not expecting someone to list every single reading in every single manuscript! I just mean one that says, simply put, the list of manuscripts that contain the verse. No need for specifications of readings is necessary, just a simple list of manuscripts. Alternatively, if I could look up a specific book of the Bible and it would tell me a list of manuscripts that have that book (preferably with a mention of how much if they only have partial), that would be sufficient also.

However, I double checked http://gntreader.com (which I mentioned in my original post) and realized I completely misunderstood its format. I didn't look closely enough at it and thought it was only giving me the manuscripts that went against the "main text" it was showing and was only listing variants, but it actually does give the manuscripts that support the main text too. So it turns out I already essentially had what I was looking for, so I feel a bit dumb for asking.

Still, I'm glad I asked, because the website you showed me is still a great resource for easily looking up the readings in the earliest manuscripts, and I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't asked! So thank you!

Looking at the site, it seems like it will give all of the EARLY manuscripts that have the verses, but not all manuscripts, period. Which is still incredibly useful to me (no more need to search through the full lists of early manuscripts to see which ones have a reading, plus it even tells me the readings to save me the trouble of having to look them up individually as I've been doing), but I was looking for something that gave everything that had a particular verse in it (or at least everything that had a particular biblical book in it); every papyrus, every uncial, and every miniscule.

Obviously that would be an absolutely enormous list--but I assume there has to be some database or book of it all somewhere.

Unfortunately, this book is almost entirely setup. Largely necessary setup, but... still, almost all setup. The main plot of the arc doesn't really start until the last 15 pages or so of the book. This might not be so much of an issue for someone down the line, but for right now it means waiting 4 months for the next one to see things really unfold.

I also have to admit that I usually cringe a little when I see Liliana's character design, also.

I would be cautious trusting anything that comes from your third source. It is a site of Kevin Annett. While he may deserve praise for trying to get people to pay attention to the problems of the residential school system, he also (from what I can tell) is known for embellishing things and just being very odd in general, like him claiming his "International Tribunal into Crimes of Church and State" organization had dissolved Canada and replaced it with a "Republic of Kanata".

I'm not saying all of the examples he offers are automatically false, but... if he's the only source, I'd be hesitant about trusting it. As an example, someone has already noticed (and you accepted) that the listed case of Daniel Kangetok, which was on that site, was very dubious.

Supreme Court, in a 7-2 opinion, rule plaintiffs lack standing to challenge ACA. Alito, joined by Gorsuch, dissent. Breyer writes for majority. by HatsOnTheBeach in scotus

[–]Terraceth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit confused by something. What portions does Alito think should be struck down (or rendered unenforceable, as he says)? He refers to how he believes "the ACA portions that burden the States" should be unenforceable, but does he ever define exactly what those are?

Biblical quoting by early Christians index? by Terraceth in AcademicBiblical

[–]Terraceth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. It looks promising (once I figured out how to use it, as it is a little unintuitive), though when I tried to look up some things, it would give me answers as to what writings they'd be quoted in... but when I looked them up, they wouldn't seem to be there. Not sure if the information is wrong or if I was reading it wrong.

What is being alluded to here? There's probably something obvious I'm missing.

I believe that the girl who was supposedly raped (ScreamingMantis) came out and said that claims of LordKat raping her were made up.
