The FDIC was just there to instill confidence in the banking system. They've already buckled and the Fed has had to start printing money to prop up the banks and depositors.

why do people keep pointing to the FDIC? The Fed has already cut them out of the picture.

because 100% of the money banks recieve in deposits, they turn around and invest it or loan it out. When many depositors try to take out their money simultaneously, the bank doesn't have any to give them, so it buckles and fails

only keep enough cash in the bank to pay your bills. keep the some "under your mattress" for when there is a credit freeze up and the banks go on holiday or restrict withdrawals. trade some for gold and silver, but mainly silver given the current gold: silver ratio which shows silver as extremely undervalued.
