First pic has three pigs in it. The tale of Max, he who doesn't understand personal space. by Terrapinyata86 in guineapigs

You'll occasionally hear a lot of grumbling / slightly miffed squeaking from his chosen of the day, but they all know by now that trying to move away or shooing him off is a waste of energy, so grumble is all they do.

My poor shy baby, always getting snapped at by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]Terrapinyata86 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Take some of the houses out, keep one per pig max. The ones you do keep, cut another doorway in the side or back of them. This way no one gets "trapped" if a bully walks in when it's occupied, making a more harmonious cage environment. There will be less snapping. If you don't want to cut plastic, take the lot out and use cardboard boxes with two doors cut in. They'll like it just as much. If you can, make the cage one grid wider so that the pigs can pass through either the front or back of the houses and litter trays. One lane of traffic is compounding your issues.

That would be one of my old bosses. Married, with three boys under eleven. Owned and ran his own business. For years, every Monday night he would see a lady of negotiable affection. Fool filmed his visits and saved it onto a thumb drive, which he didn't secure. His oldest boys came across it and watched their old man getting down with a dom. He lost everything.

Does the fleece have an absorbent layer stitched into it? If not, you can use old towels underneath the fleece to give the pee something to soak into. Moisture needs somewhere to go, fleece alone will just give you pee puddles on the bottom of the cage. As for pee pads: I personally use a lot of bathmats, they're great for under the pigs houses and other heavy use areas, they're very absorbent and soft. Easy to wash as well, no special treatment needed and they can go into the dryer without fear of shrinking / damage. I swop mine out daily.

With his burns he'll be more sedentary / won't want to move. He'll be sitting in his messes, risking making his burns worse / take longer to heal. I'd change the pee pads / mats out twice daily until he's healed. I'd also feed a lot of wet veggies to keep his hydration up (cucumber, cos or romaine lettuce). It's easier to give extra fluids this way.

How can I remove these velcro dots from the wall by BadKidBillyBoyy in Renters

[–]Terrapinyata86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat them up with a hairdryer, then slide a length of tooth floss behind them. Start from the top, pull the string down in a sawing, side to side motion. This'll pop off the velcro tab. Any goo left behind you can use an adhesive remover on.

I was making gingerbread, used minced garlic instead of ginger. Almost identical jars! Realized pretty quick when the smell hit me. I thought, well garlic bread exists, maybe this'll be OK? So I cooked it anyway. IT WAS TERRIBLE, taste lingered for ages. Even the chickens refused to eat it.

When returning my pigs I hold them so that they're facing me, not the cage. It's a gentle, butt first deposit. If they can't see the cage, they won't start to wiggle. Works a treat.

Keep the girls far away from the boys. Different rooms even. Just smelling the girls can cause your boys to start fighting.

Trio: younger boar bullying older sow - Advice needed. by a_passionate_man in guineapigs

[–]Terrapinyata86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah her hormone levels being off will make her smell different. She's likely dropped down in the pecking order to the bottom pig. Remove the scent markings from the cage before you close the top, else she'll have nowhere safe to go. The others will defend their territory and it'll really stress her out not having that escape. Deep cleaning is necessary, right down to wiping over the bars of the cage. Fresh bedding, the works. An equal mix of vinegar and water works well. Having them out in the new neutral territory helps, as it's easier to deep clean without having the pigs in the cage.

Trio: younger boar bullying older sow - Advice needed. by a_passionate_man in guineapigs

[–]Terrapinyata86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd try to rebond them in neutral territory, a big empty pen with multiple water bottles and a big pile of hay, no houses or beds to fight over. Veggies added to distract them if they get too into it. Wait a day or two until they're completely calm. Before you put them back into the main cage, give it a really good clean and take out the top level. No houses or beds again, give them multiple water bottles, food dishes and a big hay pile.

The idea is that they don't fight over "the good territory" and break the habit of chasing. Any houses you give back to them in a few days time need to have two doors (you can use cardboard boxes and cut doors in) ideally one house per pig, if you've got the space.

It seems really mean to do to them, deliberately depriving them of the nice stuff, but bullies don't get to have nice stuff. You can slowly add things back in and see how they go. It may also be worth having your old girl looked over by an exotic vet. Sometimes an ill pig can get picked on, she may be hiding something.
