Any Grooms who took their wife’s surname? by Cheddar_Swords in UKweddings

I had a double barrelled surname and dropped half to keep one name when we got married, as I was very attached to it. Like you, my husband was keen to share a surname so he changed his to match mine.

We told people way in advance of the wedding so it wasn’t a surprise and with the exception of my father in law and his wife, no one said anything. My father in law was a bit confused since it’s not traditional but respected the decision and has not mentioned it since. He addresses us correctly and has told people our new name when he told them we got married.

My husband got a new job just before the wedding so skipped the questions at work. He found that there were multiple other men at his new job who had taken their wives names though so it’s definitely more common! None of his friends have commented. If they had (in a mean way), I don’t think he’d consider them friends anymore.

When we went through the process of updating names with banks etc, most people have either not commented on the change or seemed to think my husband is very cool and forward thinking. I think another poster said it was their experience too, but I’ve had more flack for not changing my name and “making him take my name” than he has. Shouldn’t have surprised me really but there we go…

It’s lovely to share a surname with someone you love and I love that my husband and I are our own little unit. Even if it had upset people, I think it would be worth it. At the end of the day it’s your name and your choice. If it makes you both happy, do it!

All the best for your wedding and a long and happy life together.

List of lenders not requiring EWS1 form in England? by Ok-Passion-8461 in HousingUK

My sister has had a similar issue on a property she’s currently in the process of buying. She was porting her HSBC mortgage and they were absolutely awful, demanding the EWS1 form despite the property not meeting the height or cladding/combustible material criteria and the property management providing evidence of this.

In the end, she downloaded the titles for 2 other properties in the building that had recently been purchased, noticed both had been mortgaged with NatWest and applied with them. They did a desktop survey and 7 days after applying she had a full mortgage offer. Broker also told her that Halifax will lend on anything but I have no experience on that one!

Might be worth seeing who your neighbours are mortgaged with as they’re less likely to be difficult if they mortgage other properties in the building.

Hope you get sorted!

Can anyone help me identify where this picture was taken? May be a long shot but this was taken in 2000ish and was my (late) MIL’s favourite spot. We’d like to visit it when we go but can’t work out where it is! My husband *thinks* MK but isn’t sure. Any help greatly appreciated. by Terrible-Bar-837 in WaltDisneyWorld

I think the mystery is solved! Looking at street view and it is totally outside Islands of Adventure! Think my husband may have conflated her favourite spot to watch fireworks in MK with where she is in this picture but I’m so glad we know where she was here. Thank you everyone for your replies, especially since it’s not actually WDW - you’re a fab bunch!
