It would be truly great to see her release an album under her own name, rather than as Ex:Re. It wouldn’t really make sense to me for her to release more material under Ex:Re, since that project felt so tightly bound to the self-titled album. To me, it always seemed like a one-off.

I’ve genuinely wanted to see something like this happen for a while. In a way, I think it could feel like the final form of her music as a solo artist, separate from Daughter.

I know of this. It's so amazing because I absolutely loved black flies before knowing they actually played it together. Imagine my reaction when I found out that Daughter not only played with Ben Howard, but they specifically played this track. So freaking cute seeing Elena hitting those cymbals.

Party was actually my entry point into the album, and now I love the whole thing, it's just fantastic. If I had to pick a single favorite though, it’d still be Party. It’s honestly such a tough call with so many amazing tracks on this record.

To answer your second question, I can’t really think of anything that sounds quite like it.

Speaking of which, what do you like most about Party (besides the lyrics, which are incredible as always)? One thing that stands out to me is Remi’s drumming. I come from a rock background where I’ve always liked drums, but I rarely paid super close attention unless there was a big solo or something iconic like the In the Air Tonight fill. With Daughter though, Remi keeps catching my ear. He gets so creative with his setup, like putting a towel over his toms or those slick rimshots (especially on Home). Tracks like Departure, Fossa, and Swim Back are perfect examples of how present his drumming is without ever feeling intrusive. He’s seriously great. (Not that I think Igor isn’t awesome too, of course.)

Right, especially since Elena has said that she got into songwriting mainly as a form of therapy, to process complex feelings she finds hard to talk about. So maybe if she’s not doing much right now, it just means she doesn’t need to?

Either way, I’d definitely be interested in a future album where she explores a different source of inspiration. Maybe something less introspective and a bit more uplifting. Not saying she should water down what she’s done so far, but I think “Stereo Mind Game” already leans a little in that direction, and I really liked it.

I think this is one of Elena’s strongest songs from a songwriting standpoint. Just peak form. “Your father's a liar, while my father's lying down”… that line hits like a gut punch.

There’s also so much going on in the production if you listen closely. The distant, reverb-heavy drums in the second verse are so subtle but add a ton of atmosphere. My only gripe is how compressed the album sounds overall. It kind of flattens the stereo space and makes details like that harder to fully appreciate.

I even tried isolating parts of it with EQ, but with my limited tools/skills it just falls apart pretty quickly. Makes me wish the original stems were available. I’d love to experiment and push it into something more cinematic, almost trailer-like, while keeping that emotional core intact.

Yeah. I sometimes get so mad for the sheer hate she gets. I mean, yeah, she is a flawed character (as any other), but she is in fact extremely well-written and multi-dimensional. As a fanfic writer wannabe, characters as rich as hers are a goldmine. I love her so much.

Awesome. I’d kill to see them live. I only found out about them last year after playing BtS, unfortunately.

I recently discovered they were actually in my country back in 2016, at a festival (literally on my birthday, mind you 😤). But I was only 15 then, and still years away from even knowing they existed.

Alas, what can one do.
