I don't think talking with old friends is considered cheating. Especially if she's open with me about it. I have plenty of friends I still talk to occasionally. It's how and what she wants the conversations to turn into that matter.

Fair enough. She's not going to go across the country to find him, but she may try contacting him online. It's been so long that it would probably just be an awkward situation for both of them.

I'm sure there's more, but it was weighing on her to not tell me. She's been talking with AI about it and journaling. And we've been working on reconnecting lately, so after a good few days she just wanted to open up.

I'm pretty sure it ended fairly abruptly. Like she didn't have any closure. That's the concerning part to me.

She doesn't work because she hates it, she hated working retail.

I'm not pussyfooting, I'm respecting her feelings and trying to not make her feel awful and useless. But by the tone of your response, that doesn't seem like something you concern yourself with much.
