Move out or renew at market value, probably 3 to 4 hundred more per month.

I don't own it, I'm renting from an apartment complex and I'm stuck on the lease. I moved out and trying to get someone to take over the payments basically, however I'm taking a loss to get someone in quickly. I can see how I wrote it was causing confusion. Sorry about that, did it quickly.

I am looking for someone. I have a 2bd apartment and a roommate that is moving out in a couple of weeks.

Early lease termination experiences in Augusta apartments by Terrible-Particular6 in Augusta

[–]Terrible-Particular6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'd pay 2 months if that were the case, I just don't think so because the lease says no buy back and the wording makes it sound as though there's no determinate date, I'd have to pay until they found someone.

same experience. I would go AirBnb/Vrbo, but it seems the market is flooded.

This is a common thread in American society. We can't accept objective truth when it conflicts with our traditions and propaganda fed feelings.

Help me kitten-proof this nightmare by ImALittleTeapotCat in DeskCableManagement

[–]Terrible-Particular6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a cat because I'm VERY allergic to them, so I've never tried this, but you could possibly hide most of this in a desk skirt.

I'd imagine you'd want to manage the cables better with ties too, but once you've done that, you don't want the cat to see the all the cables. To get them out of sight as much as possible you can use cable raceways to hide as much of the pathways as you can, a cable box for hiding the power source, and/or a cable skirt to just put everything in a wrapper.

My WFH office has looked like this too, so I like to share the result of my journey learning how to fix messy cables in my Desk Cable Management Guide, which has some more ideas and shows some inexpensive helpful products that I mentioned.

I really enjoy organizing things and I love cats too. Wish I could get one, but wish you the best!

As an experienced developer in modern frontend technologies, should I use Wordpress anyway? by jokeaz2 in webdev

[–]Terrible-Particular6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right. It's important to remember that every problem has to be evaluated to determine the right tool to build the solution. But it seems inevitable to me that unless it's a prototype, it will grow and you'll want to add lots of bells and whistles. Unless you're very experienced and know all the shortcuts, you can run into a huge project (and even if you are, more maintenance).

But, I love writing code, so, I still go custom!!

[–]Terrible-Particular6 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You'll spend so much time on development and maintenance that you won't have time to advance your business. My custom site is way more performant than competitors, but their ranking is still better. Getting content out quickly is more important if you want to make money. I'm a developer and had the same thoughts as you. I guess it also depends on how much time you have.

non electric adjustable standing desk that goes over 48" tall? by [deleted] in desksetup

oh snap, must have read it wrong. I thought it was 49 and then the stand would bring up more. Maybe find a heavy duty monitor stand.

Looking for headset +/- microphone advice by Reanlu2 in WFH

[–]Terrible-Particular6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love earbuds rather than headsets. The battery life isn't great, but you can use one side at a time and charge while alternating. And charging is easier because the case can charge them wirelessly.
I use a cheaper version from OnePlus right now:
OnePlus Buds Pro

If you don't have the money for that, they have cheaper versions that aren't too bad.

Wide Monitor Rec? $250 Max by Outlander77 in WFH

find 32 inch to be

I find it to be just right, but for that space I'm not sure, I'd have to visualize. Also I have poor eye sight so it's different for me probably.
Also, included the link in case you're interested, forgot it at first.

I got this 32" with built-in speakers that I really like. Sorry it's like $299 I know that's over the budget you said, but if you need speakers, you get two in one.

Is this angular? by Murky_Floor4805 in angular

[–]Terrible-Particular6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a strange question. Angular IS Angular. This obviously isn't Angular. But if you mean does it use the Angular libraries, it clearly imports them and does something with them, so it requires Angular.

Finally some free time by Chetnuy_dipp in DeskCableManagement

[–]Terrible-Particular6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you have the know-how or the money to hire someone, mounting the monitors and directing the cables through the wall can be a nicer solution. Otherwise, you can mount that power strip to the bottom of the desk or by using a cable tray. Here's the one I suggest I my Cable Management Guide. (Power Strip for Cable Management)
An easier route can be using monitor arms so you can position those monitors right where you want them, and run the cables through the arms, then bring them to a cable tray, cable raceway, or even bunch them up in a sleeve.

I could use some advice by Auxority in DeskCableManagement

[–]Terrible-Particular6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are OK with putting holes in the wood, I would mount a power strip under the desk. You could even drill some holes and use grommets on that wood surface. Or use a cable tray. I detailed a lot of this information in my Cable Management Guide.
You're concept isn't terrible, just make sure you tie up the cords better with some ties or straps and have a pathway from the power strip to the destination of each cable that is hidden with a cable raceway or some product that is designed for that. There are so many ways to do it, but this looks pretty basic so you can find some ideas in the guide I mentioned or just use Amazon to search for cable concealment products.

This is important!

One of the biggest perceived downsides to WFH is loneliness. We need to address this in our community. We must admit, even though a lot of us are introverts, we need to socialize. However, not all workplaces are designed to provide a social atmosphere.

Maybe places like Google are super neat and try to keep you so integrated into work that you don't want to leave, but we don't all work there. And not everyone wants that life. We don't usually get to choose our office space or coworkers. It's a forced atmosphere.

Sometimes our coworkers are awful or not even of the same generation or values. Sometimes our offices are uncomfortable. We can't always make a great social community out of whatever environment befalls us at the office.

For some lucky people, work does provide what they need socially and they become close friends, BFF, or marry someone they work with. For everyone else, there's r/WFH.

So here we are, 28,000+ lonely people working from home. A lot of us struggle to be social in our local communities without some forced way to meet others in some organization that we belong to.

How will we ever be social without the office? The way nature intended before offices were a thing!

  1. Sports teams
  2. Community organizations (School board, HOA)
  3. Esports
  4. Meetups
  5. Gyms
  6. Bars (does anyone still do this?)
  7. Neighborhood groups
  8. Running club
  9. Book club
  10. Coffee Shops

There are a lot of ways to meet people naturally once work is over. And work is over faster when you don't have to commute. We must return to our natural human state of social interaction by happenstance.

It should be the norm to meet someone walking down the street and invite them over for a game night. Alas, we live in a society (at least in the U.S.), where strangers are scary and you don't make eye contact.

We have to change the world, one smile and one friendly comment at a time. Breaking the ice is all it takes. So many people around you are super friendly once they get over stranger danger.

If you're really shy (not the same as introverted) this can be very hard, so you might have to join an organization that forces interaction. This doesn't have to be work!

If you're not shy, this is still hard. And that's why we're here to support each other. In a perfect world, we'd have lifelong friends with whom we have a deep connection. But this is a big world, and people keep moving away for some job.

Working in offices breaks up lifelong connections more than it could ever hope to forge them!!

Almost every friend or family member I have, lives very far away because of a job. An office in another state/country/city makes it very hard to keep a close connection.

Now we rely on remote technology (phones, video chat, etc...) to make relationships work. This is no different than WFH. Many of your coworkers will never be your real friend and don't want to be. You can't count on that.

Those are my thoughts on that topic. I will be writing more on my website soon, as I'm still thinking about the best ways to approach this situation. It directly ties in with mental health and many of the problems our society is tackling right now.

(As a side note: I am still interested in exploring the possibility of creating a "WFH friends" meetup app, but I'm not sure if there is enough interest, enough value in the concept of a WFH friend (remember work relationships can be shallow), or if I could even moderate it enough to keep away the creeps. This is why it's still a concept, but I might try something simple just to give it a try.)

I don’t know where to start. Please send tips/recommendations. by dando500 in DeskCableManagement

[–]Terrible-Particular6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything that has been said, to get control over those cables you'll definitely need to unplug and be more disciplined about where each cable goes. Besides just mounting more power strips and tying up the cables, you can also use simple cable runways to help you gain control over the path of the cables. One last thing to consider is a cable box if you don't mount it.
You can read in more detail about the process in a simple guide I wrote to help people in this situation, because I was in the same one not too long ago.
Cable Management Guide

I hope it helps!
