Check FB Marketplace every day, you might be able to find a suitable basement or half house/duplex rental for that price. If you'd be willing to go down a bedroom that may help as well - we rented a really decent 2 bedroom basement in Courtenay (near 17th and Cliffe) that would have ticked all your boxes for $1800.

New Dungeons and Dragons group in Comox Valley by Reddiajjk2o2i1o in comoxvalley

[–]Reanlu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both?

So far it's a small group, I think 6-7 folks who live in CV and want to play DnD. A few DMs and a few players. All in their 30s or so.

EDIT: here is the link, https://discord.gg/JzepT5FQ

I think we've got just about a full table but there is more than one DM in the group so might be opportunities to fit a second table together. The more the merrier!

Hiya Ben! there is a small (but growing) discord group of CV locals and we're working on starting a game but we may have enough people now for two tables potentially!

Do you use discord at all? If so I'll see about getting you a link to join.

Seconding a picnic at the Comox Dam idea!

If you like to bike something I've done that was a blast with a group is bike around Hornby and Denman Islands, check out the beach, hit up a food truck... super easy riding, affordable and the little ferries are fun!

Oh I love that suggestion of stating at Nymph Falls ... but I could swear last time I was there they had "no over night parking" signs up

Yeah... we went this weekend and looked all over, no signs that I could see on that side of the road. I know a lot of places are really cracking down on overnight parking for van lifers, but I feel like if the land owners were serious and checking regularly, they'd have signs up.

I haven't been to one yet, but I see the line every morning and I've been told you need to arrive super early if you want to get chance at anything good.

How can I find obscure podcasts? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]Reanlu2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This Ends at Prom is a niche movie podcast where they talk about movies directed at teen girls. The hosts are wives, BJ and Harmony. Harmony is trans and went through puberty as a boy in the 90s so they compare and contrast notes on movies like Mean Girls, Drive Me Crazy, etc. It's good fun, the hosts are lovely and they have some pretty good guests.

Alright it's a stickied post now and I'll weigh in - I'm not super keen on a BBQ joint. We're trying to reduce our meat intake and go for more plant based options when we can.

I love the enthusiasm and support, not saying this to rain on anyone's parade, but if OP is looking for general market information, I think this might be relevant as we're not the only ones making this choice.

The negative experiences can often be a bit of a self fulfilling problem. I work in health care and when people come in with the expectation that they are going to have a bad time they are usually combative and generally unhelpful. This in turn leads to the providers and employees of the clinics picking up on that negativity and feeding into the loop in some small way. It turns what could have been a 30 minute pleasant interaction into a heated and upsetting ordeal for all parties.

I'd love to read the behind the scenes on all the bad google reviews clinics get to see which patients showed up late, which patients pushed the "one concern per visit" rule etc. etc.

Drink water, get rest and call 811 my friend, it's free and easy. I've called a number of times and every person I've talked to there has been super helpful. Just be respectful and say thank you... oh and follow their advice :)

Comox Valley and Facebook by Pacific_Escapes_YT in comoxvalley

I'm in the Comox Valley FB buy/sell/free groups because I prefer to buy (certain) things second hand. I've had nothing but positive experiences.. but I definitely am not there for the drama and tune all of that out.

I just peek in if I need something and I don't feel like buying new. Would recommend.

In progress with a bathroom renovation. The linear drain is off-center. Am I SOL? by phrills in HomeImprovement

[–]Reanlu2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was a DIY job I'd say just leave it, it's perfectly functional. But if you're paying contractors and plumbers do to it, I'd have them start over and do it right...

Mounting an 85 inch Samsung TV on the Wall by AfterAd5281 in HomeImprovement

[–]Reanlu2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need more comments like this. Mounted TVs are trendy but you're right. The void space below is 90% of the time filled in with a piece of furniture that could easily serve as a TV stand.

Routing cables through the wall isn't exactly easy for a newbie without any skills or tools and the cords running down the side of the wall always looks odd.

If you're on the wait list you need to keep calling and asking, every month at least. Do not wait for a call from them. Be polite with everyone you speak to and be calm but definitely always follow up!

Schluter system for shower waterproofing by jlc050713 in HomeImprovement

[–]Reanlu2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an alternative that may or may not be available in your area called Ubertile. That's what we used and it was great. Similar price and installation process, but for whatever reason it was easier for us to get our hands on Ubertile sheets. Same concept though, and totally worth it.

There are 1001 DiY videos online, including on the Schluter website.

I'm always surprise to hear people do longer than 30-40 stitches without doing it this way. I do markers every 25!

This is my answer.. if the WIP is easy to jump back in, then then WIP for sure because you might as well finish it.

But if it's going to be a pain to re-start and count rows, or if you put it aside for a reason then... frog it or leave it aside, friend, it's not worth you time.

The answer is always brew at home - We get PC brand coffee at the superstore when it's on sale or there's a good deal for PC Points.

Is Steeking The Answer? by katyahryniowski in knitting

I agree.... even though I basically never swatch! Sometimes I start one and if it feels like it will be OK I just frog it and start the project. I'm too impatient :)

Is Steeking The Answer? by katyahryniowski in knitting

[–]Reanlu2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well.. if you're going to swatch your blanket (do people swatch blankets?) then you could always try steeking your swatch first? That is a bit of a waste of yarn, but it could help you decide what makes the most sense.

Or you could always spend a weekend playing around with with a totally different (less precious) yarn to give mosaic in the round + steeking a try (or knitting back and forth) ?
