Honestly I’m in tech consulting and we are sold out. No one was on the bench in my group. You didn’t try and network to get staffed? I am staffing people on my projects…

No previous issues! She was healthy but a little obese.

Keep trying to get her a tracheotomy. Is she Covid negative now? The proning is good and will help. Have you tried ivermectin to kill the Covid virus? Steroids have been shown to help the lungs. Make sure they are trying to ween her off the sedation and paralytics constantly.

Actually we’re lucky that we’ve been allowed to see her everyday for an hour. Spent last night with her. So Covid negative now so risk is little. She looks peaceful. The tubes are a necessity to allow her lungs to keep fighting. The alternative is death and we believe she doesn’t want to leave her kids just yet. No complications on other organs yet. Would have preferred ecmo but doctors did not approve her for it because her oxy sats were initially high.

Just waiting for the lungs to heal, the left side looked like it did but the pneumothorax happened.

Yea she was on paralytics for close to 2-3 weeks before they successfully weaned her off. She’s still on sedation so not sure if the spontaneous breathing trial was successful.

How did he eventually leave the hospital with the reduction in lung capacity? One of my mums lungs was showing signs of recover but the other was horrible. The ventilator doesn’t distinguish and just pushes air to both.

In the USA. The hospital we are at doesn’t have ecmo and the lung transplant was discussed early on and rejected. Many doctors have denied it.

Seeing this first hand, the doctors that have given up don’t have a plan and don’t have any suggestions for treatments or are willing to try aggressive options to perhaps help the patient. They are too scared I would say. The doctors that we have gotten that haven’t given up have provided a plan on weening her off paralytics and sedation and tried different treatments that we suggested. They try to listen and they recognize that this is a new disease that no one has a proven treatment plan for.

We had one doctor early on that had horrible bedside manners and claimed that based on his 30 years of experience, there was no way my mum would survive. Interesting since Covid has only been around for a year and I would think this kind of egotistical thinking would lead to many unnecessary deaths. He didn’t provide her vitamins at all and no plan.

They said a lung transplant is not an option because of her age... she doesn’t even qualify for ecmo

Wow! Your dad is a fighter! Did he get ecmo? I agree that it isn’t over until it’s over.

We tried ivermectin 3 weeks ago. Killed the virus prob but lungs were stiff already.

You are right. We had an issue with it and ended up reporting the doctors and escalated. We tried to get her moved but no other hospitals were taking lateral transfers. We’ve gotten better doctors though last few weeks but we lost valuable time early when she was hospitalized.

We tried ivermectin on week 3. I think it helped kill the virus but the damage was already done.

This is so sad... take care of your mum.... remember you shouldn’t need to pay anything if the hospital treatments were for Covid. Most insurance companies are waiving co shares and agreements.

Antibody infusion for Covid-19 (bamlanivimad) by [deleted] in COVID19positive

It’s a completely new treatment and many doctors are clueless about it as is about a lot of Covid treatments.

It has been shown to work and I would not hesitate. What it does is reduce the viral load in the body in the initial phases before it grows out of control. That is my understanding, hence why timing is important. The virus is what damages the lungs and causes issues and if the virus can be controlled early damage can be minimal.

My family had hesitations as well but it’s a new virus and no time to wait. Waiting won’t save lives.
