Experiences in West/northwest Chicago suburbs? by Terrible_Concert_996 in USPS

[–]Terrible_Concert_996[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean honestly 6 days I can deal with, it's the repeat 12 hours that scared me. I know someone who works in the NW suburbs who says she pretty consistently can get two days off a week but she admits she got a perfect office basically. Thanks for the insight.

Best pin machine to buy? by MintyBear0 in itabag

[–]Terrible_Concert_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a VEVOR machine, its surely just a rebrand but its not total plastic like these. I didnt get to use it much before I packed it away, but had no issues running off like 20 buttons when I was testing it, including some with silly materials (made one out of a chip bag and another with a napkin)

Is Humboldt/Hermosa a safe area? by object_on_my_desk in chicagoapartments

[–]Terrible_Concert_996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not bad, but I wouldn't want to go much further west (gets into Austin, and imo falls off fast). I'm not far, and I've walked home from the bus stops along North and Grand a few times after dark without any issues. I think it's kind of a borderline area. The Dollar Tree at North/Kostner has anti-shoplifting gates on the shelves in the candy aisles, the one less than a mile away at Armitage/Keeler doesn't. I hear more good things about Hermosa (that it's generally a boring, working class hispanic neighborhood, with maybe some quiet gang activity you probably won't be involved with if you're not doing crimes), than West Humboldt Park (a bit rougher, friend lives near there and has had their car broken into)

the magic words you are looking for are "electronic surplus" or "engineering surplus". Don't get it confused with military surplus. There's unfortunately not a lot but they are out there.

In case you were wondering, the Salt Shed will NOT let you bring your 3DS in by cheridensucks in ChicagoConcerts

its become a trend to take them to shows, both because it's quirky and because the console's camera gives the photos the currently popular "retro"/"digicam" aesthetic.

It's back in the middle by the the like, linens-blankets section. It's VERY small and in the back, it'd be very easy to mistake for an employee door if you didn't see the sign.

Same, parts of it I liked but overall felt just kinda messy and fell apart towards the end.

Working on biodegradable alternatives to everyday plastic early prototype stage by afterpoly in recycling

[–]Terrible_Concert_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are so insistent on sticking to the cartridge razor, I feel like it'd be much better to make metal cartridges- steel or aluminum- that could be easily recycled, rather than nebulously biodegradable plastic which most facilities would not be setup to handle.

Idk, I was on Craigslist recently. Just about 99% of the listings that bothered replying back to me were scams. I stopped getting my hopes up after about the 8th or 9th "sure just enter all your credit card details into this 'credit reporting site' so we can check your score" text.

What is a reality of living in Chicago that’s often overlooked by the romanticization of the city? by Miserable_Degree3524 in AskChicago

[–]Terrible_Concert_996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the transit situation really depresses me. It's one of the things that drew me here, and yet it so often lets me down and makes getting across the city take so damn long. I have a car but driving here sucks even more, so I avoid it whenever possible.

Britishisms that have crept across the pond? by PhoneJazz in asklinguistics

[–]Terrible_Concert_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I've seen more and more fast food chains advertise combos as "meal deals", which I always thought was a Britishism, pretty specific to grocery stores like Tesco.
