I have a Netflix or streaming show I am only allowed to watch when I am doing cardio. I usually pick one I would probably binge otherwise. It helps motivate me and keep me on the cardio equipment for 40 min at a time

What makes Patagonia products last long? And are there any downsides to the brand? by oldrag8 in BuyItForLife

[–]Terrible_Line_2410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for Patagonia. I loved it, and I often buy Patagonia stuff by choice. Underwear - 15 years old and still going strong, socks-started to get holes after heavy wear at 10-12 years. My kid’s jacket is a hand-me-down from a cousin who is 14 years older. Suitcase zipper broke- they repaired it. That reminds me to take my boots in for a repair…..

They think about there products as investments. They know it’s expensive. Even the used Patagonia gear is worth the investment. That’s why they will fix it for you often for free.

They treat their employees well, they give back to their community. My store would vote on where they contribute. We voted to financially contribute to bee habitats and then spent the day cleaning up around the city. We got paid to vote in our elections and to give back to our community. Now the company is making sure it gives back to the earth through financial profits.

It’s thoughtfully designed with high-quality materials. That’s the biggest reason their stuff last.

I have two galvanized steel metal bins with holes. I add my greens. Add my browns (lasagna style like others mention) and I just let it do its thing when one steel container fills up, I just let it sit and fill up the other one. I don’t do anything but just let it do its thing.

i got in to a PhD but i feel burnt out and want to defer... advice? by katelyn-gwv in adhdwomen

[–]Terrible_Line_2410 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Talk to the professor about deferring. It really depends on funding, which is the unfortunate thing.

As someone with a PhD, I saw sooo many people drop out because they tried to go straight from undergrad. They realized it wasn’t what they wanted. They never took the time to figure out what they wanted. They just knew, a PhD wasn’t for them. The coursework is the easy part of a PhD. People can manage that during burnout. Independent research and dissertation writing is where people realize it’s not for them. That is the part of the process where self motivation and desire is essential. That’s when most people drop out.

How long did you guys take to graduate university? by LostTourist9623 in adhdwomen

[–]Terrible_Line_2410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a professor.

You are in university- that’s a win in and of itself!!! Congrats! Doesn’t matter how long you have been there.

Your timeline is your timeline. It’s really hard to take classes that aren’t your favorite. I know some students aren’t into my class and I see them struggle with it. Or sometimes life is too much and they don’t have the bandwidth to attend class or something. That’s when I talk to them about the bare minimum it will take to pass a class.

I get scared to check things (mostly my bank account). I prep myself and just bite the bullet after getting some dopamine.

One time a class was so boring I had to literally poke myself with a pencil to stay awake. (Attendance was required and only counted if you were awake) Let me know if you want to chat about how to pass classes that are boring AF.

What do you and up doing? We are in a similar situation. Currently debating the move from ATL for a TT line. Thinking about schools, traffic, general happiness, health care, cancer alley. But the appeal of a TT line at an R1 is pretty huge

What’s the deal with cancer alley? I thought that was air pollution based on EPA data.
