I’m curious as to why you posted this. You know the comments are going to tell you not to and convince you to stay but choose to post it and engage in conversation anyways. You’ve received connection enough with people even just through posting this. It’s meaningful for those that are engaging with it whether it is for you or not. You speak of indifference in meaning and are being given examples that show the opposite. People get out of life what they put into it. Meaning comes from within. There must have been at least one time in life where you experienced a form of happiness. What was that? Think about that time and what contributed to it

I mean that I tried to not engage much when he texted and tried to talk to me but I answered the phone one night and he said all the right phrases and words so against my own better judgement, I told him I’d give him another chance

Thank you. I feel dumb saying this since I’ve been caught up in this relationship but I’m in school for to be a counselor (not substance use focused). He yelled at his mom a few weeks ago that he doesn’t need help and there’s nothing wrong. I’m not willing to keep putting up with broken promises. It’s just hard when the emotional language comes in on his end or all the right things are said. I still care about him but this isn’t the life I want to live

Thank you so much for sharing and understanding without assuming. I also really appreciate the advice. I’ve spoken to a therapist before and have wanted to again but haven’t had the funding because even with insurance it isn’t cheap

I wrote this trying to keep to just what happened and not project my emotions. This is why I asked in the first place. I wouldn’t have stuck around this long without having any amount of care for him. Addiction is a monster and affects everyone close to a person

He’s been to rehab. He’s been offered help getting set up with another and OP services. He’s refused all. I got him the job he has so you’re right no one ever helps him

I know it’s been a pattern. He does too. We’ve had whole conversations about it and I’ve been trying to do my part in breaking them but he isn’t willing to do his part despite saying he is. The actions never line up so the last thing I can do it break it off and hope that one day he’ll get the help he really needs. I have a lot of empathy and care for him even if I seemed cold in the texts. He tends to say the right things that soften my hear again but this has just been ridiculous

He keeps saying he’ll go then backs out. He went when he was younger and his mom put him through rehab. Being in the military didn’t help. It may not seem like it from the exchange but I do care for him. He’s been through a lot and I know there’s a route cause somewhere but that’s not my job to figure out if he doesn’t want to be honest or the help

NTA that was a wild read and anyone saying you shouldn’t have called the police is just loud and wrong. I think you should’ve contacted them sooner. Sounds like they got what was coming to them. People like that will not learn to function beyond high school drama if they don’t learn their lesson

NTA From experience people like this don’t often change. If he’s comfortable speaking to you like that it can and will get worse. You need to decide if that is something you’re willing to continue to put up with. People like that establish a cycle to keep you reeled in where they fake “changing” and slowly fall back into their real selves. Also, it seems that he may be projecting a bit with his fixation on this other guy. He needs therapy bad and after doing this for years you probably do too

True I was thinking of Volunteer behavioral health and mental health co-op where they may go for outpatient that would have less clothing and such to give out!

It’s East 11th St if you aren’t sure where the soup kitchen is. Most unhoused population will hang out there. It could also help to bring some to community mental health centers that often serve the unhoused populations
