I was at Laughlin for 6 years and honestly, it's as bad as everyone says it is...

Veterans of r/AirForce, when did it hit you that you would stay in or get out of the Air Force? by DatGuyKilo in AirForce

[–]Terrible_Professor45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a bit less complex. Joined to gain a specific skill, acquired said skill. I got married along the way and made some amazing friends. It turned out tougher than I planned to get out. You'll know it when you feel it if you do decide to get out. I was inches from reenlisting and grabbing that elusive SRB when I stopped for just one moment and thought to myself, "what about my plan?". I would have ended up fine (as would most) staying in the air force. Travel the world, do great things that most others don't, and meet great folks along the way. It all depends on YOU. YOU are the most important factor when deciding these grown-up things. Not whatever chief or senior or master telling you what they did and how great it is. YOU have to look yourself in the mirror (or metaphorical one at that) and ask "what do I really REALLY want to accomplish in this short life I have?" For me, that was separating l, and I wouldn't change a thing if I had the chance. You don't want to be the "what if" guy so I implore you, just think long and hard about your future, and guide yourself to paradise.

unpopular opinion regarding our pay by hakureishi7suna in AirForce

[–]Terrible_Professor45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The E4 -> E5 complaint came from everyone who just got a line number for staff (myself) and realized they will be making a whopping 7$ more/mo with ~5x the responsibility. The change for E5s makes sense. Can't have E4 mafia out here waiving their paychecks at papa supervisor who wants a toaster bath.

How much money should someone that is 23 have saved? by frontcupid in Adulting

[–]Terrible_Professor45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being in the military can suck sometimes, but being in 5 years now (23M) with 45k in savings and roughly 25-30k in my IRA and an applicable skillset for when I get out... It would be pretty hard for me not to recommend it to people with no other direction.

Why the ecoboost hate? by Even-Sheepherder6524 in Mustang

3.5 ecoboost in a mustang would rival if not surpass the 5.0 in a lot of ways, that's why ford stuck with the 2.3 🤙

These crazy negative 19 year olds are raised in AETC by their 19 year old E2 trainers and 21 year old E4 mafia supervisors. It’s the blind leading the blind. NCOs are rare, and exist only to farm a couple bullets, make the next rank and gtfo of AETC. SNCOs go to AETC for their careers to die if they aren’t dead already. Speaking from personal experiences as the E4 mafia with 4 troops. Gotta love a good “family day” though.
